The Strongest Normal-Type Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Z-A

The Strongest Normal-Type Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Normal-type Pokemon don’t get a whole lot of love. In terms of type match-ups, they’re kind of like a blank slate; not really strong against anything, and only weak to one other type. To make up for it, Normal-types typically have strong coverage and some good STAB moves in things like Hyper Beam or Giga Impact.

That said, there are some strong Normal-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, especially with the inclusion of Megas like Mega Kangashkan and Mega Lopunny. If you’re looking for the best Normal Pokemon to add to your team, give these ones a try.

Heliolisk

Heliolisk in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Heliolisk may not have gotten a Mega Evolution in Legends Z-A, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the better Normal-types in the game. Thanks to its dual Electric typing, Heliolisk has decent coverage, especially against Rogue Mega Evolutions.

Using Plus Moves, Heliolisk can stand toe-to-toe against these Rogue Megas, and moves like Breaking Swipe or Bulldoze give it a bit of extra coverage against other Megas, too.

Pyroar

Pyroar in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Pyroar was one of two Normal-types to receive a new Mega Evolution in Legends Z-A, giving this Pokemon a much-needed buff. While Pyroar’s Mega may not be the most visually appealing, its strength more than makes up for it.

Pyroar has access to a few powerful STAB attacks like Hyper Voice and Flamethrower, and has type coverage through Earth Power, Dark Pulse, and even Solar Beam. You can also get Litleo fairly early into the game, making this a great Pokemon to raise throughout your playthrough.

Audino

Audino in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Unlike the rest of the Normal-types on this list, Audino is best used in a defensive or supporting position on your team. Where it lacks in Attack or Special Attack, it more than makes up for it with its high base Defense and Special Defense.

This bulk is bolstered by moves like Amnesia, taking its Special Defense even higher, and Wish, allowing Audino to heal either itself or a swapped-in teammate after a short duration. Toss a Light Screen, Reflect, or Safeguard on it, and you have an immovable wall that acts as the backbone of your party.

Pidgeot

Pidgeot in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Pidgeot is an excellent Special Attacker in Legends Z-A, especially when Mega Evolved. With its high base Special Attack and Speed, Mega Pidgeot can fire off high-damage moves like Hurricane or Airslash repeatedly. Combine this with Agility for even faster attacks.

Pidgeot can also learn Heat Wave through TM or if you catch it as an Alpha, giving it a bit of extra coverage against pesky Steel or Ice types. This classic bird Pokemon has never been better than it is in Legends Z-A, and it’s luckily one of the first Pokemon you can encounter in the game.

Kangaskhan

Kangaskhan in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

When it was first introduced in the Generation 6 era, Mega Kangaskhan was an unstoppable powerhouse that dominated online battles, primarily due to its ability, Parental Bond, which made all of its attacks hit a second time at half power.

Sadly, Legends Z-A does not have abilities, but Kangaskhan is just as powerful due to its high base stats, particularly in its Attack, Defense, and Special Defense. It’s also one of the only Pokemon to retain a pure Normal-typing when Mega Evolving, meaning it doesn’t gain any weaknesses when it Mega Evolves.

Lopunny

Lopunny in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Before its Mega Evolution, Lopunny is a decently strong physical attacker that serves as an acceptable early-game party filler. However, after Mega Evolving, Lopunny becomes a formidable attacker, boasting high base Attack and Speed. It also gains the Fighting-type, allowing it to take full advantage of all those Fighting-type attacks it learns, like Power-Up Punch or Dynamic Punch.

Lopunny has impressive coverage and utility, even among Normal-types, gaining access to Brutal Swing, Iron Tail, and Bounce, and that’s just through level-up moves. Add in TMs like Play Rough, or Ice, Fire, or Thunder Punch, and you can tailor Lopunny to almost any situation.

Drampa

Drampa in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

It’s no secret that Dragon-types are among the strongest in the Pokemon franchise, often having high base stats and some of the strongest attacks. Drampa is no different, and is also one of the two Normal-types to get a new Mega Evolution in Legends Z-A, taking its overall power to the next level.

With a base Special Attack of 160 when Mega Evolved, Drampa decimates most enemy Pokemon with a single Draco Meteor. When slightly less firepower is needed, Drampa has access to moves like Dragon Pulse and Hyper Voice for STAB, and several powerful Special Attacks like Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Earth Power, and Thunderbolt for extra type coverage.

The only thing slightly keeping Drampa back is its lackluster speed, but if you can take out an opponent in only one or two attacks, Drampa’s lower speed hardly matters.
