The Strongest Electric Pokemon In Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen

The Strongest Electric Pokemon In Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen

While picking the best Grass-type Pokemon in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen gave us plenty of options to choose from, there’s a limited pool of Electric-type options that you can acquire without trading in FRLG. For example, while finding an Ampharos in the wild would be nice, there’s no way to catch Mareep outside of Altering Cave, which only spawns Zubat in its base-game state, which could previously be altered via an event.

Since there are caveats like this that make it impossible to acquire every Pokemon in the Dex via organic means, it opens the door for other Electric Pokemon to find a home on your team among some of the most useful options in FRLG.

Lanturn must also be traded over to FRLG from one of the Hoenn games, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald. While there’s an extra hoop to jump through, this Pokemon’s dual Water and Electric typing makes it stand out as one of the strongest options you can add to your team, if you’re willing to trade.

Charizard has stiff competition from Legendary Pokemon.

However, since you’ll have to jump through hoops to get this Pokemon, it’s not as viable as some of the other strong Electric Pokemon you can find scattered across Kanto.

Electrode is one of the best examples of a solid Electric-type addition you can include, especially since you’re given multiple chances to catch one while you’re infiltrating the Power Plant to catch Zapdos. Electrode doesn’t have the strongest Base Stat Total (BST), but its massive Speed helps ensure that it can attack first.

Access to moves like Thunder and Thunderbolt will help Electrode function as a superb hit-and-run style attacker, where you can switch it in to attack a Pokemon it’s strong against, then retreat against any non-advantageous matchups.

Magneton, much like Electrode, is more useful than its mediocre stat spread may suggest. This Pokemon boasts both Electric and Steel typing, the latter of which is still fairly rare amongst peers in FRLG and other Gen Three games. While Magneton is weak against three common types in Ground, Fighting, and Fire, it also boasts resistance to 12 of the 15 other types, including immunity to Poison.

Magneton is almost always a safe lead to throw out, and its massive Special Attack stat helps to start the battle on the right foot, as it can usually weaken the foe severely, even if it can’t finish the fight on its own. However, in the right matchups, Magneton will almost always come out on top.

Raichu boasts a solid blend of Speed and both of its attacking stats, enabling it to hit hard with special moves like Thunder and Thunderbolt, or opt for physical options like Thunderpunch.

Whichever side of attacking you decide to lean on, Raichu can capitalize on it, though Special Attacks have more potent options.

Raichu’s massive Speed advantage helps it in matchups even where it might not have a distinct advantage, thanks to its ability to hit hard enough to KO even when it doesn’t do Supereffective damage.

Despite sacrificing the flexibility that Raichu brought to the table, Jolteon is the better Electric-type option thanks to its massive increases to both Speed and Special Attack over its peer. These two stats are arguably the most essential parts of what makes an Electric-type Pokemon shine, and Jolteon has them in spades.

Jolteon also offers coverage moves like Double Kick and Pin Missile, so while it may function much better as a Special Attacker that sticks to its roots, Jolteon can also be a well-rounded team member. Despite its noticeably bleak defensive prospects, Jolteon offers enough on the offensive end to justify inclusion in almost any team.

Unfortunately for Jolteon, Raikou offers a much more balanced and well-rounded Electric-type option, only sacrificing 15 Speed to gain major advantages in every other stat across the board.

The one caveat to getting Raikou is that you must either select Squirtle as your starter or trade with a friend for Raikou instead.

Thunder and Spark are this Pokemon’s main damage-dealing moves by level up, but you can also teach it plenty of moves via TM, including Iron Tail, Thunderbolt, and even Sunny Day or Rain Dance. These weather-altering moves are fantastic if you want to use Raikou to support other types, like its fellow Legendary Beasts, Entei and Suicune.

Zapdos stands out as the best Electric-type Pokemon in FRLG, and ditches Electric-type’s most notable weakness in Ground, only leaving it vulnerable to Ice and Rock-type moves. Zapdos is an essential member of most Elite Four-beating teams and should make a permanent home in your squad, either as your reliable Electric choice or at least as a great Fly user to start.

Drill Peck and Thunder are must-have level-up moves, but Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Light Screen, Protect, Toxic, and Shock Wave all offer viable options to round out your moveset. One of Zapdos’ greatest strengths is its Special Attack, so however you choose to build out its moveset, make sure Zapdos can capitalize on what makes it one of the best Electric Pokemon in FRLG.
