The Pokemon Company Seeks To Hire People With Ecology PhDs

If you happen to have your PhD, and it just so happens to specialize at some level in the field of ecology, then The Pokemon Company wants you to drop everything and head to Tokyo posthaste. The Pokemon Professor jokes write themselves, but then, they’re not far from the truth.

The salary comes with yearly bonus guarantees, and—unsurprisingly—bilingual fluency in both English and Japanese is warmly welcomed. The specific skillset sought by the makers of one of human history’s greatest commercial achievements centers on animal and plant life. In other words, yes. They are, in fact, looking for Professor Oak and friends.

Having that PhD nets a one-million yen bonus upon arrival, which renews every March. In current USD conversions, that’s around $6300, as IGN reports. The annual salary itself is set between six million and ten million yen—$37,750 to $62,917. Your mileage may vary on how appealing that sounds, but if you were interested in relocating to Tokyo, hey. Why not?

There’s no mention of game development experience requirements, so this is a far cry from a traditional programming role. Instead, we can surmise that those hired will be assisting in portraying realistic environmental scenarios and/or the creation of brand-new Pokemon. Given we’ve already topped a thousand of these fictional critters, with plenty more on the way via next year’s recently-announced Pokemon Winds and Waves, I can see why it might be high time to get some more voices in. Folks can only come up with so many designs, and ecologically savvy sorts will have foundational knowledge for all kinds of untapped inspirations.

The World’s Top PlayStation Trophy Collector Just Got Banned, And It’s Probably A Hacker’s Fault

David Tremblay has featured in the Guinness World Records, but a scorned hacker wants him out of play.

Pokemon Pokopia plops the protagonist Ditto into a post-human Kanto which suffered rough enough environmental pressures for us measly humans to have relocated to space. Maybe ecologists can have a field day career in contemplating further ways to go extra with all of this. (Or is it truly extra? We’ll see where things land on our very real planet in the decades to come.)

If you’re down, you can apply via Japanese recruitment website HRMOS. Good luck!

It’s been reported that Marathon is being played primarily on PC, which isn’t great news considering the game’s less than amazing numbers.
