The Most Valuable Cards In MTG’s Final Fantasy

The Most Valuable Cards In MTG’s Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy has easily been one of the most successful Universes Beyond Magic: The Gathering has ever released. This is surprising, given the typical sentiment towards UB sets and how out of place they can feel in the Standard format.

This popularity is also represented in the card values and the value of still-sealed products. While the Play Boosters are likely to be printed in some capacity until the set rotates out of Standard in 2028, the Collector Boosters end much sooner, typically after the initial printing run, which will have a huge impact on card value for the variants that can only be found in this product.

The prices for this list come from MTGGoldfish and may change over time. We will not be including Japanese Promo cards or the Traveling Chocobo Neon Ink cards, as their prices range from $7,200 to $1,000.

Kefka, Court Mage/Kefka, Ruler Of Ruin – $125

Full-Art Surge Foil

Kefka, Court Mage surge foil MTG card.

The big bad of Final Fantasy 6, Kefka is one of the few antagonists who actually beat the heroes, at least for a time. As a commander, Kefka can be ruthless, forcing your opponents to discard cards and sacrifice their permanents (whack a Tergrid in here to be extra mean). The back face is even worse, comboing with Niv-Mizzet for an instant way to win or draw out your deck for Laboratory Maniac.

This is also one of my favorite alt-arts in the set. Kefka’s wide smile on the front face is scary as anything, contrasting nicely with his bright, clowny colors. Kefka is one of the best baddies in Final Fantasy, and this card knows it.

Jidoor, Aristocratic Capital – $142

Prerelease Foil

Jirdoor, Aristocratic Capital MTG card from Final Fantasy.

It takes a lot for a land to crack the most expensive cards in any set, but given how popular the Final Fantasy set has been, it’s even more surprising to see Jidoor, Aristocratic Capital trending for almost $150.

In this case, the value is largely from the fact that it’s the prerelease foil version of the card, which is stamped with the release year in the lower left corner of the card art. Still, the adventure sorcery aspect of this card also brings a ton of value, especially given that mill is slowly creeping back into the Standard and Commander metas.

For a cost of six mana, you can force an opponent to mill half of their library, rounded down. The card can still then be played as a land, as it is exiled after the sorcery has been played. If you play the card as a land first, the sorcery can not then be activated.

Lightning, Army Of One – $146

Full-Art Surge Foil

Lightning, Army of One full-art MTG card.

The massively underrated Final Fantasy XIII gets a few decent cards in this set, but the standout is easily Lightning, Army of One. She leads the way with first strike, setting up the other creatures you attack with to deal double damage that turn. Find a way to give her double-strike, and you’ll be doubling that damage twice.

I love that this card doesn’t have a pink background like the rest of Lightning’s color palette. Instead, it has a steely grey that matches her aloof personality, making it visually stunning as well as an absolute terror to play against.

4

Vivi Ornitier – $159

Borderless Foil

Vivi Ornitier alt-art

Vivi Ornitier is the perfect example of a card that gets overlooked in the spoiler and pre-release window, but grows into the game, gets drawn into Commander, Legacy, and Modern decks, and has seen its value spike as a result.

This is why it can be tricky trying to predict the values of cards before a set is out in the wild, as you never know which cards will get pulled into relevance.

This card grants additional red and/or blue mana based on its power at the time you activate its ability. This can only be done during your turn, and only once per turn. Also, any time a +1/+1 counter is placed on Vivi, it also deals one damage to each opponent.

3

Yuna, Hope Of Spira – $178

Full-Art Surge Foil

Yuna, Hope of Spira full-art MTG card.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the most valuable cards in Final Fantasy are also some of the best commanders, as plenty of people are going to want to build decks around their favorite characters. Flavorful and powerful in equal measure, Yuna is quickly cementing herself as a go-to enchantment commander.

Free enchantment recursion every turn is great, and it’ll be incredibly easy to avoid those finality counters from mucking up your plans. Alternatively, you could go stompy with enchantment creatures, enjoying the ward, lifelink, and trample Yuna gives them.

2

Cloud, Midgar Mercenary – $289

Full-Art Surge Foil

Cloud, Midgar Mercenary Surge Foil MTG card.

Once the most expensive card in the set, but now settling for second place, is Cloud, Midgar Mercenary.

Cloud is shown here with his iconic Buster Sword and glum expression, which is a similar face that anybody who has to play against him will make.

Cloud searches for an equipment card when he enters, and then he doubles the triggers of himself and any equipment attached to him. This is screaming for you to put as many of the Sword of X and Ys on him as well as other scary pieces. If he doesn’t become one of the best Voltron commanders and justify his massive price, I’ll eat my black mage hat.

1

Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER//Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel – $529

Full-Art Surge Foil

Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER (Borderless, Surge Foil), one of the most valuable MTG cards in 2025.

Kefka is a cool villain, but nobody is more iconic than Final Fantasy 7’s Sephiroth. The big emo with the bigger sword, Sephiroth’s front face is weirdly constrained for such a major character. He doesn’t do much more than draw you a card and do Blood Artist-y things. But then he transforms into One-Winged Angel, and his power becomes all too clear.

Retrigger Sephiroth’s transform ability over and over to build up those emblems, before building up a board and sacrificing them all in one big burst of damage. With art by Maji showcasing just how twisted and corrupt he becomes, it’s no wonder he’s one of the biggest chase cards in the set.
