The Hitman series debuted in 2000 and is still going strong today. In that time, plenty of aspects of the series have stayed the same. For instance, they’re all third-person stealth titles that put you in control of a bald-headed assassin who is armed with pistols and fiber wire. Yet, one thing that has changed is the difficulty of these games.
The more recent World of Assassination trilogy has tricky moments, but is fairly doable for the average player. The early games, however, were punishingly challenging. You were given fewer options, guards were more aware, and there was generally less hand-holding. So, many missions in those early titles were famously difficult. The following missions, though, are the most challenging in the entire series.
Ex-Dictator Elusive Target

Richard Ekwensi and Inez Ekwensi |
In general, missions in Hitman: World of Assassination are easier than those in other titles. This is because controling Agent 47 is smoother, and you generally have more options for how to kill your target. That said, the Elusive Targets in World of Assassination are a bit trickier since you only get one shot at them. If you fail, you can never try again. This means the trial-and-error method won’t work here.
Hitman World Of Assassination: The Antithesis Walkthrough
Use his Mom’s spaghetti against him.
For the Elusive Target in question, you have to kill the former dictator, Richard Ekwensi, and his wife on the Bangkok map. This map isn’t the most enjoyable to roam around, and it can be tricky to get to certain areas. What makes these Elusive Targets particularly problematic, though, is the fact that they have a bunch of bodyguards with them. These guys are annoyingly great at keeping their emplyers safe by following them everywhere. Plus, they seem very aware of their surroundings. Therefore, there aren’t many golden opportunities to sneakily eliminate your targets.
Requiem
|
Game |
Hitman: Blood Money |
|---|---|
|
Target |
Everyone |
The Hitman games are known for being third-person stealth games. Yet, Blood Money’s Requiem mission is a bit different. It begins with Agent 47’s funeral as he’s about to be cremated. However, he’s only faking his death using a special serum. With the help of Diana, he gets revived, and you can get him to stand up at any time to start killing all the people at the funeral. it’s worth pointing out that the people attending the event are all his enemies.
Because you rise up in the middle of a funeral, you can’t do this mission stealthily. You automatically alert everyone, leading to one big shootout. The issue is that the game is designed for stealth. So, the shooting mechanics are a bit clunky, making it tricky to wipe out everyone quickly, particularly on harder difficulties.
The Motorcade Interception
|
Game |
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin |
|---|---|
|
Target |
Abdul Bismillah Malik |
The Motorcade Interception is a unique mission because your target never actually leaves his car. He’s being driven past the village that you’re in, meaning you’re encouraged to pick him off as he goes by. The target in question is named Abdul Bismilah Malik, and he’s doing a deal with the UN. So, he has UN troops with him, whom you have to avoid killing.
Also, when you get into the area where you can snipe him from, the vehicle spawns, and you only get a certain amount of time to take him out before you fail the mission. Therefore, you’ve got a bit of time pressure to deal with, too. All of this leaves you with little margin for error, which is what makes the mission so challenging. It doesn’t help that aiming with a sniper isn’t incredibly smooth in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin.
The Lee Hong Assassination
|
Game |
Hitman: Codename 47 |
|---|---|
|
Target |
Lee Hong |
Naturally, your target in The Lee Hong Assassination is Lee Hong, who is the leader of the Red Dragon Triads. Killing him isn’t the only thing you have to do in this mission, though. You also have to find and take his Jade Figure. All of this occurs within a restaurant and a large mansion, containing many different areas.
The safe that holds the Jade Figure is randomized, and it can be difficult to get to at times, with the map not being the easiest to navigate. As for Lee Hong, killing him is pretty tricky, too, since he has a big bodyguard with him, and just reaching them can take a lot of work. So, to sum up, there are two main objectives, and neither is simple to complete.
At The Gates

Target |
N/A |
At The Gates is a part of a series of missions in Japan that you embark on in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. The whole point of these missions is to track down and kill Masahiro Hayamoto. This particular level has you infiltrating a highly defended castle, but you don’t actually reach Hayamoto in this one. You simply have to get deep into the castle. The use of the word ‘simply’ there may be a little misleading since there isn’t much simple about this mission.
A large part of it has you wandering around the snow, trying to disable the castle’s alarm systems while avoiding being seen by the snipers and other guards. If you are seen, then it can sometimes be an instant game over. Of course, there aren’t only obstacles outside. Even when you’re inside, you need to be careful, particularly because most non-sniper guards are able to see through your disguises.
Plutonium Runs Loose
|
Game |
Hitman: Codename 47 |
|---|---|
|
Target |
Arkadij Jegorov |
Deep into Hitman: Codename 47, you have to complete the Plutonium Runs Loose mission. This means infiltrating a large ship, killing a man named Arkadij Jergorov, disarming an old nuke, and stealing the ship. The nuke part of the mission stands out the most, as you don’t necessarily expect to be dealing with nuclear weapons in a Hitman game.
The explosive device can cause you severe problems because if you’re discovered, the guards can tell your target, which leads to him blowing up the bomb. Therefore, the margins of error for this mission are very slim. You do have disguises to help you stay incognito. Yet, disguises alone can’t get you through the multiple checkpoints you need to get past before even reaching the boat. In these instances, you need to walk up to the checkpoint behind someone who has the password to get through. This is not only very finicky, but it’s also not always easy to pull off. Then, when you do get onto the ship, it can be a bit of a maze to get through. So, there aren’t really any easy bits in this mission.
Hidden Valley
|
Game |
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin |
|---|---|
|
Target |
N/A |
Hidden Valley serves as the second part of the infamous Japan missions in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. In this one, you need to make more progress in tracking down Masahiro Hayamoto. This means finding a secret passage.
This is one of the most notoriously difficult missions in the Hitman series. There are a few different reasons for this. For starters, the mission is very linear, meaning you don’t have a lot of options. If you stick around outside, you’re almost certainly going to be seen by one of the eagle-eyed snipers in the area, meaning you have to go through a tunnel instead. Yet, that tunnel is filled with guards in close proximity. The only help you get is a truck that keeps driving backwards and forwards that you can use for cover. However, the level is buggy, too, so the truck can get stuck. All of this makes it hard to never alert anyone in this level.
