You can’t tell me Geoff Keighley didn’t know what he was doing by showing off those mountains for the final trailer at The Game Awards. The show ended just a few hours ago, and while there were some great reveals, the anticipation for The Elder Scrolls 6 perhaps made the show a little underwhelming. While Divinity, Control: Resonant, Mega Man: Dual Override, and Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic are all exciting reveals, it seems fans were waiting for something much bigger.
Usually, the final reveal is reserved for something massive, so when Keigley started describing a game while standing in front of a mountain range, TES 6 fans couldn’t help but get excited. Add that to the fact that Todd Howard was at the show too. Unfortunately, once he started describing the game, the excitement got deflated.
Those damn mountains! We’ve been staring at them for seven years, and Bethesda hasn’t revealed anything else about Elder Scrolls 6. So, when Keigley stood there in front of the mountains from the Highguard trailer, even my eyes widened at the thought of a surprise trailer for the iconic series.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a multiplayer PvP shooter. I mean, it looked fine, but it was quite the let down after a few seconds of excitement. Not to diss the game, but I’m not sure why The Game Awards decided that it should be the final trailer of the show. I would think Divinity, or Mega Man: Dual Override would be ideal choices.
Maybe it was just a coincidence, or maybe Keighley was trolling us, but fans were pretty underwhelmed by it. I know we can’t have a God of War TGA moment every year, but perhaps rearranging the reveal order to put one of the big announcements at the end would have been a better idea. As for The Elder Scrolls 6, the wait continues.
