The Division 3 Dev Provides An Update After Two Years

The Division 3 Dev Provides An Update After Two Years

It’s been a while since we’ve got any concrete news about The Division series. The second game is chugging along with a small but dedicated community, even getting some big content drops along the way, and The Division: Heartlands got cancelled in 2024. However, I wouldn’t blame you if you forgot that The Division 3 is in development.

Announced in a rather subtle manner, Ubisoft announced the third game in the series buried within a news post in 2023, about The Division Brand’s new Executive Producer, Julian Gerighty. It seems the game is still in development, and Gerighty has even said that it will have the same impact that the first game did.

Speaking at the New Game+ Showcase (via MP1st), Gerighty said that development on The Division 3 is ongoing, and that the devs are working “extremely hard” on it. Unfortunately, he didn’t reveal any details about the gameplay or when we’d get a proper reveal or release date for the looter shooter.

“So, The Division 3 is in production, right? This is not a secret,” he said. “It’s been announced. It’s shaping up to be a monster. I can’t really say anything more than that. But this is within these walls in Massive. We are working extremely hard on something that I think will be as big an impact as Division 1 was.”

Is Massive Big Enough To Make Avatar, Star Wars, And The Division?

The Division 3 studio has a LOT on its plate right now.

While it’s not as popular as Rainbow Six: Siege, Ubisoft has supported The Division 2 for almost seven years now, even adding new content and announcing a DLC. It’s evident that the studio feels strongly about the IP, so it’s probably going to wait till it’s in a decent place to make a proper reveal.

The Division Heartland was supposed to be a free-to-play spinoff with a PvPvE mode and a separate PvE mode focused on finding loot and crafting. Considering how popular Arc Raiders has become, maybe Heartlands would have been more popular than Ubisoft thought.
