The Best Power Type Monsties In Monster Hunter Stories 3

The Best Power Type Monsties In Monster Hunter Stories 3

Everyone loves a little bit of Power, and sometimes raw Power can beat out more Technical actions. But it isn’t everything. Someone with enough Speed can easily surpass brute Power. At least that’s how the attack cycle of Monster Hunter Stories 3 works.

Every monster in the game has their own default attack type that they rely on when out of Stamina to perform regular attacks. And we’re going to take a look at the best Monsties in the game that use the Power attack type.

Rathalos And Variants

From the very beginning of the game, you have Ratha in your party, and you don’t encounter any other Rathalos until you reach Serathis. And conveniently, those Rathalos have identical stat trends to Ratha, so no replacement needed. Rathalos in the wild can mutate, however.

Ratha is already a powerful Monstie with balanced stats, but if you want to push that further, you’ll want Dreadking Rathalos. Defense is exchanged for higher Attack and HP, and a bevy of powerful Skills that make them a true force to be reckoned with.

Thunderlord Zinogre

Getting Thunderlord Zinogre requires some work, with you also having to rescue Mizutsune and then put them both in the same habitat before raising Zinogre’s Ecosystem rank to S. It’s a long process, but Thunderlord Zinogre is unmatched.

Like many other monster variants, Thunderlord drops their defense quite low, though the exchange is the highest Attack stat in the game, alongside very high HP and a Speed stat that’s nothing to scoff at. Add to this the many powerful Skills they get, and there are few Monsties are powerful as them.

Diablos And Variants

In the mainline games, Diablos has always been one of the most terrifying monsters to battles due to a combination of their sheer speed and strength. And Stories 3 represents that accurately, with both stats tied for the regular Diablos, and very high, too.

But there are two further mutations, Black and Bloodbath, with each dropping more Defense in favour of higher Attack, and even some extra Health for Bloodbath. They serve different purposes, but all of them are deceivingly fast, and obscenely powerful.

Brachydios

Naturally, you can encounter Brachydios in Azuria, though their eggs do not naturally appear there, so you’ll have to wait until you reach Serathis to finally hatch on of your own. After you get a glance at their stats, you’ll understand why.

If you use a Paintball, you can force a Brachydios in Azuria to retreat after being defeated, letting you get one of their eggs much earlier than intended.

While Defense and Speed are middling, Brachydios has incredibly high HP and Attack. They have strong Ailment Resistances too, and many of their Skilsl allow them to inflict Blastblight on enemies for extra damage.

5

Garangolm

Garangolm seen in the Monsterpedia in Monster Hunter Stories 3.

Garangolm can naturally be found in Canalta Timberlands, and they possess a unique trait amongst many of the monsters in the game – they have both obscenely high Defense and HP.

There are almost no other monsters in the game that match Garangolm’s Defense, let alone the high blend of both HP and Defense. Their Speed and Attack are very middling, though their sheer survivability makes them very useful in tanking attacks from powerful enemies.

4

Gravios And Black Gravios

The only monsters that can hold a candle to Garangolm’s incredible defensiveness are the variants of Gravios. While their Speed and Attack fall even lower than Garangolm, their Defense and HP manages to get even higher.

Gravios and Black Gravios are basically two sides of the same spectrum in this regard. Gravios has maxed-out Defense, while Black Gravios has maxed-out HP, and slightly increased Attack.

3

Espinas

Espinas seen in the Monsterpedia in Monster Hunter Stories 3.

In the mainline games, Espinas is terrifying because they can inflict you with every status effect under the sun with a single attack. In Stories 3, they are terryifing because, until enraged, they are defensive against every single element.

Espinas has great stats too, but the elemental resistances add such a high level of base strength to them that adds to their survivability so much more. Their Defense is lacking to make up for this, though decently high HP still helps out.

2

Deviljho

The great pickle that Deviljho is and subject of a great many urban myths, they are still obscenely powerful, and have the Skill to make themself further surpass their limits to just be absurdly strong.

Like Brachydios, you can get Deviljho earlier by forcing them to retreat with a Paintball in the Mt. Canalta section of Canalta Timberland.

While their Defense is very low and Speed leaves a lot to be desired, they have quite high HP, and their Attack is one of the highest in the game, boosted easily by their many Skills.

Grimclaw Tigrex

Grimclaw Tigrex is the most extreme definition of a glass cannon in the entirety of the game. You need to first save Tigrex and add them back to the ecosystem, and then go through a complicated process to finally get Grimclaw.

They have a maxed-out Attack stat, and the lowest Defense of just about monster in the game. They have good HP and high Speed, so you’re relying on getting your hits in before monsters can take down Grimclaw. But when they hit, they hit hard.
