The Best Ghost Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension

The Best Ghost Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension

The Ghost type has long been a fan favorite for typings when it comes to Pokemon titles, having debuted in the first generation and only adding newer and cooler Pokemon to the type roster since, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A with its December 2025 DLC in Mega Evolutions has quite a good gathering of ghosts.

With their relative immunity to physical damage types and plenty of ways to shake things up on the battlefield between damage-dealing moves and status changes, you’d be wise to add some of the following Ghost-type Pokemon to your best battle team comps in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

While Gourgeist didn’t get a Mega Evolution form this time around in Pokemon Legends: Z-A or the Mega Dimension DLC, you’ll still find a variety of ways to use the Pumpkin Pokemon in battle regardless of which of the four size varieties you managed to catch. Check the stats in your Pokemon’s summary to see which variety you’ve picked!

The Best Catches In Every Wild Zone In Pokemon Legends: Z-A

You should probably still catch ‘em all, of course, but if you have to focus on any of them…

The smallest Gourgeist might have a smaller pool of HP, but they’re the fastest of all to make up for the inconvenience. As they get bigger, their Attack and HP increase by large portions as their Speed drops off, but if you can strike the right balance here, Gourgeist is indispensible.

The Alpha Gourgeist in Wild Zones 15 and 20 each come in the Medium Variety, so you’ll need to catch and raise a few Pumpkaboo on your own if you’ve got your eyes on a different size.

Trevanent

Trevanent's entry in the Pokedex in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

If you weren’t fully prepared for a fight against haunted trees when you ventured into Wild Zone 13 for the first time, we’re betting that Alpha Trevanent kicked your butt the same way it did ours. The dual typing Trevanent has between Grass and Ghost make it a formidable foe, but an even more powerful Pokemon pal if you’ve got it on your team.

The Elder Tree Pokemon enjoys the usual Ghost-type immunity to Normal and Flying moves, but its Grass typing means it’ll have some trouble with Fire, Flying, and Ice moves. Regardless, it’s got a truly staggering Attack stat for a Pokemon without a Mega Evolution, so you’ll make good use of physical moves like Phantom Force for its Ghost typing and Wood Hammer from the Grass-type.

Houndstone

Houndstone in your box in Pokemon Legends Z A.

The Ghost Dog Pokemon is one of the newer introductions to the Pokemon series, arriving when we first ventured into Paldea in the Scarlet and Violet games of the same generation as Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but Houndstone’s newness doesn’t mean it’s a Pokemon you should overlook if you’re building a good Ghost team!

Added in the Mega Dimension DLC, you’ll find Houndstone is more of a physical Attacker than a Special Attacker, so you’d do well to have it learn moves like Phantom Force and its fairly unique Ghost-type move, Last Respects. Your foes will rest in peace after going up against this Ghost-type headstone pup.

Gimmighoul

Gimmighoul on the pavement in Pokemon Legends Z A.

Another newer arrival for the Pokemon series, Gimmighoul was also introduced back in the Paldea region a few years before the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and fans went wild trying to collect enough Gimmighoul Coins to evolve their best Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, a Ghost/Steel dual type that rocked most battles back in the Scarlet and Violet titles.

While there are technically two forms of Gimmighoul – the Chest Form and the Roaming Form – you’ll only find one of them natively in Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC. The Chest Form was introduced in the DLC and is available either from exploring the Hyperspace Rifts with Special Scan, or from finishing one of the various Side Missions added in the DLC as well.

To get the Roaming Form of Gimmighoul in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you’ll need to transfer one in from Pokemon Home; they’re not native and must be imported from your Scarlet/Violet save.

Golurk

Mega Golurk's Pokedex entry in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Base Stats

Golurk

Mega Golurk

  • HP: 89
  • Attack: 124
  • Defense: 80
  • Sp. Atk: 55
  • Sp. Def: 80
  • Speed: 55
  • Total: 483
  • HP: 89
  • Attack: 159
  • Defense: 105
  • Sp. Atk: 70
  • Sp. Def: 105
  • Speed: 55
  • Total: 583

Golurk and its previous evolution, Golett, were re-introduced in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and with them came a truly impressive new Mega Evolution form for the fully evolved final form. If you’re brave enough to handle the higher-level Hyperspace Rifts, then you might just be rewarded with an Automaton Pokemon of your very own.

Its already high physical Attack stat skyrockets to one of the highest on our list of the best Ghost-type Pokemon for the Mega Dimension DLC, and with such heavy armor on its body, we’re not surprised to see just how much higher its already good Defense and Special Defense can become in its Mega Evolution. Between that and taking negligible damage from Poison, Rock, and Bug-types, you’re in good shape with Golurk.

Cofagrigus

Cofagrigus evolving in Pokemon Legends Z A.

While certainly not one of the fastest Ghost-type Pokemon in our list, we’re still pretty keen on Cofagrigus, the Coffin Pokemon added to the game again in the Mega Dimension DLC. While it’s a good Special Attacker who’ll get good mileage out of moves like Shadow Ball or Hex, a big point of its allure is the staggering defensive stats it boasts. You’ll ignore Normal and Fighting moves, and take minimal damage from Poison and Bug-types, too.

The main character stands with Gyarados in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Best Early Game Team Builds

Start on the right foot with these teams.

If you have a Galarian Yamask instead of a standard one, you’ll evolve it into its Galarian counterpart, Runerigus, instead. Runerigus is more of a physical Attacker instead, and it receives plenty of new affinities that separate it from the standard Cofagrigus. Choose which one is right for you based on your playstyle!

Banette

Banette's entry in the Pokedex in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Base Stats

Banette

Mega Banette

  • HP: 64
  • Attack: 115
  • Defense: 65
  • Sp. Atk: 83
  • Sp. Def: 63
  • Speed: 65
  • Total: 455
  • HP: 64
  • Attack: 165
  • Defense: 75
  • Sp. Atk: 93
  • Sp. Def: 83
  • Speed: 65
  • Total: 555

The Marionette Pokemon has a distinct horror vibe based solely on its appearance with glowing red eyes and a mouth that zippers shut, and that’s before you Mega Evolve it into its even creepier Mega form! If you prefer your Ghost-types to be physical Attackers over Special Attackers, then Banette is going to be the perfect choice for you.

Whether you caught the Alpha Banette in Wild Zone 15 or have raised your very own Shuppet into something more powerful, you’ll get good mileage out of Banette on the battlefield. It’s got a staggering Attack stat and pretty decent Speed, so it’ll be an asset on the battlefield when it’s quickly dishing out Phantom Force and Poltergeist with ease.

Gengar

Gengar in the Pokedex in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Base Stats

Gengar

Mega Gengar

  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 65
  • Defense: 60
  • Sp. Atk: 130
  • Sp. Def: 75
  • Speed: 110
  • Total: 500
  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 65
  • Defense: 80
  • Sp. Atk: 170
  • Sp. Def: 95
  • Speed: 130
  • Total: 600

Gengar has long been a fan-favorite Ghost Pokemon, ever since its introduction back in the first generation Pokemon games, and for good reason – it’s got some of the best Special Attack capability of any Pokemon in our list, a stat that only improves even further when you hand it a Gengarite and instruct it to go Mega on the battlefield.

Gengar has a slew of affinities not shared by all Ghost-types. It keeps the immunity to Normal and Fighting moves, the resistance to Poison and Bug, and the weakness to Ghost and Psychic, but it’s got a few others to keep in mind as well. It resists Grass and Fairy-type moves as well, but watch out for its weakness to Dark moves.

Chandelure

Fighting Chandelure in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Base Stats

Chandelure

Mega Chandelure

  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 55
  • Defense: 90
  • Sp. Atk: 145
  • Sp. Def: 90
  • Speed: 80
  • Total: 520
  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 75
  • Defense: 110
  • Sp. Atk: 175
  • Sp. Def: 110
  • Speed: 90
  • Total: 620

If you like a Pokemon with a good dual typing (and punny name), consider adding the Luring Pokemon to your team with Chandelure, one of the best Ghost-type Pokemon in the whole of Legends: Z-A. Between its Ghost and Fire typings, you’ll be in for a world of Special Attack damage output that’ll make your rivals’ heads spin.

Mega Chandelure only grows more powerful, too, with improvements that put both its Defense and Special Defense stats into the triple-digits. It gets a small Speed boost as well, to bring that Special Attack pain of Ghost and Fire blended moves to enemies even faster, all but guaranteeing your victory in battle.
