The Best Field Upgrades In CoD: Black Ops 7

The Best Field Upgrades In CoD: Black Ops 7

Summary

  • The Trophy System is the best, as it blocks grenade spam and lets you secure objectives without fear of explosions.
  • Active Camo shines with Ninja, Ghost, and Cold Blooded, with Recloak keeping you invisible after firing.
  • Most Field Upgrades are situational. The Trophy System and Active Camo dominate, while many others are niche or gimmicks.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been out for quite a while now, allowing players to settle into their ideal builds and loadouts, which makes putting the finishing touches on it that much more crucial. While you likely already have your favorite perk combinations and weapons, the Field Upgrades can still be a bit odd to select from, as some can be highly beneficial, while others feel completely useless.

Nonetheless, there is a Field Upgrade for everyone and practically every playstyle, allowing you to get the most out of your loadout and reach new heights on the scoreboard. However, if you’re looking for which one is the best of the ten available in the game, some stand far above the others, making them a must-have if you’re looking to dominate the arena!

Mute Field

Mute Field kicks off this list, as it’s not a terribly Field Upgrade overall, but it doesn’t offer anything super unique that you can’t get by using Perks or Attachments. Activating Mute Field will completely silence your footsteps, allowing you to swiftly move around the map without the enemy pinpointing your location by hearing your loud running.

Here’s everything you need to know about Weapon Prestige in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7!

However, with the Ninja Perk being available in the game, this Field Upgrade feels sort of useless, especially since you have to accumulate enough score to even use it, and it expires relatively quickly, forcing you to go long stretches of the match with absurdly loud footsteps. While its Overclock that suppresses your gunfire without needing a suppressor is pretty useful, it’s not useful enough to have us recommend it!

Drone Pod

An overview of the Drone Pod Field Upgrade and its Overclocks in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Ah, the Drone Pod, a Field Upgrade you likely saw all over the place at launch, which you also likely saw vanish within a few weeks. Why is this the case? Well, everyone is running Cold Blooded these days, and the Drone Pods don’t do nearly as much damage to justify using them over anything else.

Using Drone Pods just doesn’t feel useful anymore, as they won’t be able to track most of the players on the map, and even when they do, they won’t really do much of anything to them. They’re easy to shoot down and evade, and can be helpful in some situations, but shouldn’t be prioritized over most of the other Field Upgrades!

Fear Trap

An overview of the Fear Trap Field Upgrade and its Overclocks in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Fear Trap is another interesting Field Upgrade with a pretty cool concept, but it falls short of being more than a gimmick. Having your enemy trip a toxic gas mine and begin hallucinating to see enemies that aren’t there is undeniably pretty cool. Still, the moment you trip this thing once, you sort of know what you’re looking for, and it will have virtually no impact on you from there on out.

While the Overclock that causes the toxic gas damage to those infected over time makes it slightly better, it’s not enough to move the needle much further. We think the Fear Trap is neat, but it’s missing that extra ‘oomph’ that would catapult it any higher. But we understand, as this thing could be extremely annoying!

Scrambler

Next up, we have the Scrambler, which does about what you’d expect: jamming the enemy’s electronics and mini-map in the affected area, making it harder for them to track nearby enemies. While this would be okay at best in most other titles, its Overclock saves it quite a bit, placing it near the middle of the pack.

Being able to mark enemies on the mini-map while subsequently jamming theirs is excellent, allowing you to get the jump on them before they even know what hit them. While Ghost will prevent them from appearing on the mini-map, this thing still proves to be pretty reliable when used in modes such as Hardpoint or Domination. Don’t underestimate the Scrambler’s potential with the Motion Sensor Overlcock!

Black Hat

Following that, we have the Black Hat Field Upgrade, which allows you to hack enemy equipment, scorestreaks, and even enemy players. This little device can be extremely deadly in the right hands, as you can hack an opponent and have them fight on your side temporarily, or even hack a Turret and have it target the opposing side.

And, when paired with the Engineer Perk and its Transmission Booster Overclock, you can see and hack enemy equipment and scorestreaks through walls, allowing you to turn the tide on camping opponents without even having to get near them. We love the Black Hat when used strategically, but it’s hard to recommend over some of the others, as you really need to use it with a solid build to make the most of it!

Echo Unit

The Echo Unit kicks off the top five, as it is a pretty solid Field Upgrade overall, allowing you to deploy a decoy of your soldier onto the battlefield that can capture and contest objectives, and even flashbang enemies that get too close to it via its Proximity Sensor Flash Overclock.

Furthermore, you will be surprised at how many people we find still shooting at these things, thinking they’re real enemies, which reveals their position, allowing you to swoop in and take them down. While we think its strongest skill is its ability to capture objectives, that is a nice bonus that makes it all the more useful!

Active Camo

An overview of the Active Camo Field Upgrade and its Overclocks in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

We struggled a bit deciding where to place the Active Camo Field Upgrade, but we think it deserves its spot in the top five, simply because it can be extremely deadly with the proper combinations of perks and attachments. Utilizing this Field Upgrade with Ninja, Ghost, and Coldblooded (thanks, Perk Greed), along with a weapon fitted with a suppressor, makes Active Camo the best Field Upgrade in the game by a mile.

Not only that, but using it with its Recloak Overclock allows you to reapply the invisibility even after you fire a weapon, allowing you to run around the map completely undetectable across the board. But, since it relies so heavily on Perks and attachments, it doesn’t quite make the top three, but it deserves this spot all the same!

Assault Pack

An overview of the Assault Pack Field Upgrade and its Overclocks in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

A bit of a boring pick is next, which is the Assault Pack, allowing you to throw down an ammunition crate that your teammates can interact with to replenish their ammo, lethal grenades, and tactical grenades. This thing is a lifesaver, and your teammates will be grateful if you use it.

Fragging out and on a massive scorestreak, but tore through all your ammo? Fear not, the Assault Pack is here. Know that an enemy is in a building, but you have already used your lethal grenade? Yup, you guessed it, the Assault Pack is here to save the day. It is simple and straight to the point, but it will never be useless and will always be helpful to yourself and your teammates, no matter the mode or your level!

An overview of the Squad Link Field Upgrade and its Overclocks in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Our penultimate choice is the Squad Link, which gives a substantial boost to score accumulation, gadget effectiveness, and more to all players within a wide area of effect, making it the ultimate Field Upgrade for those who love playing the objective.

What’s more, running this with its Command Relay Overdrive will also increase the rate at which your teammates’ Field Upgrades recharge, allowing everyone to quickly obtain their scorestreaks and Field Upgrades, making it near impossible for the opposition to compete. When used correctly and strategically, it’s hard to beat the Squad Link!

Trophy System

Lastly, we have the best Field Upgrade in the game, which is undoubtedly the Trophy System. If you love playing Hardpoint, Domination, or even Search and Destroy, the Trophy System will save your hide more than enough to justify its top-tier ranking. You just cannot argue against how efficient this thing is.

Look, everyone has access to grenades, and they will use them. The grenade spam has seemingly never been higher, so having a Trophy System at your side when capturing objectives will keep you from exploding into a million pieces. And, with its Tighter Packing Overclock, having it explode two additional projectiles makes it even better. It’s the best Field Upgrade by a mile, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
