TCG Card Shop Simulator Reportedly Out Beats Resident Evil Requiem, Marathon On Xbox

Last week was a rather jam-packed week for video games, what with the release of Resident Evil Requiem, plus Marathon’s scheduled Server Slam, as well as the re-release of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, along with the usual flood of smaller, less noteworthy titles.

Yet, as far as things on Xbox are concerned, neither Requiem nor Marathon were the most-played games over the weekend. Rather, TCG Card Shop Simulator, a one-person developed indie title that is still in Early Access, outpaced both heavy hitters, according to new data shared by TrueAchievements.

Via information “compiled using gameplay data from over 3.1 million active Xbox accounts,” TCG Card Shop Simulator had 12.7 percent more Xbox players than Marathon’s Server Slam event. The title also had an astounding 23.7 percent more players than Requiem did.

Overall, TCG Card Shop Simulator attracted just 6.9 percent fewer Xbox players than High on Life 2, which, per TrueAchievements, currently stands as the biggest Game Pass release so far this year.

Indeed, TCG Card Shop Simulator is a Game Pass release, and its popularity shows just how influential the service can be when it comes to attracting and maintaining players. So much so, that Requiem and Marathon barely stood a chance.

TCG Card Shop Simulator Is A Genuinely Well-Received Title

However, it’s not like TCG Card Shop Simulator is simply popular because it’s free. Sure, its free status helps, but it is actually a well-received title on its own.

Over on Steam, where the game first debuted, it maintains an “Overwhelmingly Positive” status based on a whopping 31,177 reviews. It’s attention to detail has been praised, as has its pick-up-and-play nature.

“As an owner of a TCG shop, I have to say the attention to realism is amazing,” one recent reviewer wrote. “From the customers with wild price expectations, to the smelly ones, to the ability to chuck a bunch of empty boxes in the corner of your store, the immersion level is just so high. This whole week, all I could think about at work while I was pricing cards was how badly I wanted to get home so I could play this game and price some cards. Absolutely incredible work, dev. I’d love to see more updates to this game at some point.”

Its popularity has even driven a small, dedicated modding community that has made several noteworthy additions to the game, including a texture pack that replaces available stock with real-life Pokemon cards, as well as a separate addition that uses Shōnen Jump cards instead.

Imitiation is also the sincerest form of flattery and there’s even been a few dupes that have spawned, too, owing to the popularity of the real-life TCG Card Shop Simulator, one that is extremely popular.
