Stellar Blade was always going to get a sequel. The action title, popular for many reasons, sold exceptionally well on PlayStation, broke records on Steam, and has built a rabid audience since its release.
In May 2025, its creator, Shift Up, confirmed in its financial reports that work had begun on a follow-up title, and the following month, its director said he recognized that “the story is weak,” and wanted to present a “sufficiently rich narrative” in any sequel.
Outside of interviews, it’s likely that any official news on Stellar Blade 2 is still some way away, given the original is only around 18 months old. However, the official Stellar Blade Twitter account teased that it is scouting locations for its next title, sharing concept art inspired by a real-world location.
Stellar Blade Sequel Gets First Hint About Its Setting
On Twitter, the official Stellar Blade Twitter account tweeted, “Just finished a location scout for our next title. It’s confidential. #StellarBlade #TheWorldChanges” with some concept art of ravaged, overgrown high-rise buildings. Soon after, it pinned the post.
Shift Up followed the original tweet by saying, “Oops, a little slip-up”, with a photograph of the area the concept art is based on, looking decidedly more alive.
Eagle-eyed viewers, like Genki_JPN, noted that this image is based on a set of buildings found in Chongqing, China. Chongqing is categorized as a “Megacity” and has earned nicknames such as “China’s Cyberpunk City” due to its architectural structures, neon lights, and railways running through the middle of apartment blocks. It’s become popular on short-form video platforms like TikTok and Instagram in recent years.
Chongqing, or Stellar Blade’s equivalent, seems like the perfect setting for a follow-up title thanks to its juxtaposition of historical landmarks, neon-lit skyscrapers, and mountainous surroundings.
Stellar Blade Studio CEO Says The Studio Will Use AI So “One Person Can Perform The Role Of 100”, To Help Keep Up With China
“We pour about 150 people into one game, but China uses 1,000 to 2,000 people.”
Based on the fact that Shift Up is in the process of scouting for locations, it feels like Stellar Blade’s sequel is still some ways away. However, the developer’s eagerness to show concept art this early on suggests that it will be forthcoming with news and teasers about its next game.
