Stardew Valley fans have proven in the past that they’re very capable of doing the most bizarre things you’ve ever seen for no particular reason. One example that lives rent-free in my mind is one person that decided they’d play the game without walking anywhere, constructing a convoluted highway of chairs that they dubbed the “booty express” to get around.
That’s a level of commitment that I never thought I’d see in another player, but a Reddit user called Holozard has proven me very, very wrong. A few days ago, Holozard shared their bizarre game save with the Stardew Valley subreddit (thanks PC Gamer), during which they slept for 1,000 years straight for no reason other than just to see what would happen. Turns out, total chaos.
Stardew Valley Turns Into The Last Of Us If You Sleep For 1,000 Years
First off, Holozard explains how they actually managed to sleep for that long in the game, and the answer is absolutely baffling. To start with, they ran their Nintendo Switch constantly for over three weeks, during which the game crashed nine times. They set up their controller with a turbo button to keep hitting ‘A’ and a hair tie wrapped around the stick to keep moving right. This actually ended up killing their controller entirely, giving it horrible stick drift.

Stardew Valley Is One Of The Only Games I Want To Live On Forever
ConcernedApe’s farming sim is the very definition of a modern indie classic.
As or what 1,000 years of sleep did to the world of Stardew Valley, it may as well have become an apocalyptic nightmare-scape. You can see from the images above that every square inch of Holozard’s farm was filled with either a giant mushroom, some form of weed, or a tree which had grown, and all of this took them 3 whole seasons to clear out.
When asked how their chickens were after 1,000 years with no owner to take care of them, Holozard shared screenshots which claimed they were “looking a little thin” and “grumpy.” I would be, too, if I was abandoned for a millenium little guy, don’t you worry.
Holozard’s farm wasn’t the only thing negatively impacted by their big sleep either, as Pelican Town seemingly descended into a state of disarray because of the lack of farmers on hand. Thanks to the game being in what would be a suspended state, none of the game’s villagers (who are somehow still alive and seemingly immortal) were able to go about their daily tasks.
The result of this is a Pelican Town that is full to the brim with rubble and debris, with almost every square inch of the town inaccessible, and Cindersap Forest was somehow in an even worse state. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have just assumed someone had dropped an atomic bomb and the entire place had just been evaporated.
However, there are benefits to sleeping for 1,000 years and making Pelican Town a wasteland, as once Holozard had finished clearing out their town, they had “made almost half a million in mushrooms”, so I guess that’s one way to start a Stardew Valley save.
