Star Wars Visions Accused Of Plagiarising A Fan-Made Movie

The Star Wars universe is ever-expanding. What started with a mere movie trilogy has grown into an IP giant, covering almost every medium you can think of. TV shows, video games, toys, comics, anime, there’s a Star Wars property in every form of media. Star Wars Visions is one of the newest properties based on the IP, bringing original, non-canon stories by various artists. Unfortunately, a recent episode has been accused of plagiarising an entire fight scene.

Ubisoft Red Lynx has produced an exceptional version of Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2.

Star Wars Visions season two, episode seven featured a tightly choreographed fight scene between what looks like a Jedi and a Sith – or maybe an Inquisitor, based on his weapon. However, Star Wars fans recognised the fight choreography, which earlier featured in a fan-made film called Dark Jedi.

Disney Accused Of Copying Fan Film Choreography For Star Wars Visions

Some fans even stitched the fight sequences together, and it’s hard to argue that the choreography looks any different (via GamePressure). The Visions version features a double-sided blade, but the rest looks the same. This caught the attention of the Dark Jedi creator, who called out Disney for copying his work.

“I mean they already had a different weapons setup, but still managed to brute force (push) my choreo onto that action,” said creator Lorenz Hideyoshi in his Instagram post. “Didn’t even change the camera angles. Why Disney ? Is it because we made a non-profit tribute fan film of one of your IPs and now you feel justified in stealing from this pool of creative output?”

After 20 Years, Revenge Of The Sith Is Better And Worse Than You Remember

The rerelease is a reminder that I still love Revenge of the Sith, despite its flaws.

He also said that Disney should either pay the animators more or actually hire an action designer. However, Visions works with various animation studios from across the world, so the process here is a bit different than other Disney Star Wars creations.

While most of the comments were in support of Hideyoshi, saying he should sue Disney for stealing his choreography, there were those that said that he used Disney’s IP, so Visions using his choreography shouldn’t matter. While that’s a whole separate debate, you’d think the creators would be more careful while handling an IP like Star Wars.
