You all remember Spore, right? A game from the makers of The Sims that lets you create the most cursed creatures ever to roam around on two legs (or as many as you liked), take them throughout various stages of evolution, and eventually fly around the cosmos harvesting planets. It was a staple of many childhoods, despite it being far too ambitious for its time, and has a spot in my heart as a game I enjoyed growing up.
I’m not exactly rushing out to buy a physical copy of the game though, especially since it’s available on Steam for extremely cheap, and even if I wanted to, I don’t have a PC with a disc drive to even install the damn thing, never mind play it. However, there is one person out there who, last month, confidently strolled into a game store, found Spore sitting there on the shelf, and decided to pick it up for themselves.

Yes, according to video game sales data from analyst and Circana senior director Mat Piscatella (thanks PC Gamer), there was a single person in the entirety of the US who bought Spore last month, and I’m going to need whoever that is to step forward and claim your handshake, because I respect you greatly.

Masahiro Sakurai’s passion project is nothing like Mario Kart World, and that’s a very good thing.
Interestingly, Piscatella also shared data for other games that had a singular physical sale last month, and there are actually some bangers on his list. For starters, I feel like it should be a criminal offense for only one person in the whole US to buy Burnout Paradise, though it’s probably due to them buying a copy on the Xbox 360. Incredibles 2: Rise of the Underminer for the Game Boy Advance is also on that list, another game I have fond memories playing as an infant – maybe they just got done watching the film?
Other games on the list include Carnival Games: Wild West 3D, Imagine Fashion Stylist, Backyard Baseball, Hasbro Family Game Night 3, Cooking Mama Cookstar, and Ultra Bust A Move. Pretty wild variety of games right there, even if you would classify most of them as slop, but hey, who am I to yuck anyone’s yum. If someone wants to buy Imagine Fashion Stylist for the Nintendo DS in big October 2025, more power to them.
