Sonic the Hedgehog has become a movie phenomenon spanning three movies and a fourth in the works. However, before it became such a hit, the movie was dunked on as soon as the first trailer was out. The reason was that the animators gave Sonic realistic eyes and humanoid hands for whatever reason, making him look like a bizarro version of himself.
Thankfully, the creators reworked the eyes, and Sonic is now a movie star. However, it seems some fans want to watch the world burn. Sonic The Hedgehog: The 2019 Cut is a “full fan–made reconstruction of the original 2019 version of Sonic the Hedgehog.” As for why someone would do this? That’s a question only they can answer.
Ugly Sonic Is Back To Haunt You
Sonic the Hedgehog: The 2019 Cut is scheduled to release in 2026, with fans reworking the entire movie to feature Ugly Sonic. Unfortunately, the trailer, which was supposed to drop yesterday has been delayed (thanks GamesRadar+). It seems the creators weren’t happy with the way Sonic looked, which feels like a full-circle moment.
“The main reason is that we weren’t completely happy with the “final” result. Besides, we wanted Sonic’s animation to feel as fluid as possible, and to be honest, it would have gotten some negative reviews if we’d released it today,” said the creators in a post. While this may sound ironic, the delay is possibly to do with the animation rather than the way Sonic looks. I doubt the team delayed it thinking the hedgehog looked too good.
However, we did get a two-second clip of Ugly Sonic running in a washing machine, and he definitely looks like his original ugly self. There’s no new date for the trailer, so fans of the Ugly Blu Blur will unfortunately have to wait and watch out for more information.
If Ugly Sonic is your thing, in June we learnt that before Ugly Sonic, there was an Uglier Sonic that Paramount thankfully scrapped. Unfortunately, they didn’t fix him up enough before releasing the original trailer.
