So Many Unreleased Games Let 2025 Pass By Without A Single Update

In some ways, 2025 was a bit of a quiet year for video games. PlayStation’s two big exclusives were sequels a rung below the likes of The Last of Us and God of War in terms of public recognition, Xbox continued to stutter along with a handful of games that felt better suited to the now extinct land of double-A experiences, and there was a rather large GTA 6-sized hole in the release calendar.

On the other hand, we saw the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the first new Donkey Kong in some kind of animal’s years, the heavily anticipated release of Silksong, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sprung the year’s biggest surprise by being the most successful game in The Game Awards history.

In between all of these ups and downs though, there were some nothings – some games that were leaked or revealed before the year started, and by the time it ended, we knew as much about them as we did going in. This is a highlight reel for them. If you’re looking for updates though, be careful what you wish for. Last year, Silksong was on the list, as was Tomb Raider, the latter of which had two games revealed in December. However, so was Wonder Woman, which ended up being cancelled. Let’s hope these games avoid that fate.

Blade

Typically, to qualify for this list, we go by radio silence. Not only the obvious stuff like no trailers, screens, or mechanic reveals, but also no release dates, delays, or other murmurings from the studio. Technically, Blade doesn’t quite qualify, as on December 23, the game’s director Dinga Bakaba gave us a small update, but an update nonetheless.

However, given the update was “The team is hard at work, everyone is super proud and out doing themselves. Please be patient, it will be a special game and we all hope it will be meeting the high standards that we set for ourselves and for you all”, which is sweet but tells us nothing at all, so I’m counting it.

The Wolf Among Us 2

In September, the writers of The Wolf Among Us 2 – who have since moved on to become AdHoc, releasing Dispatch late last year – said they had no idea what was going on with the game. Aside from several leaks about an imminent release that turned out to be false, that is all we have heard about The Wolf Among Us 2 since October 2024.

Most Anticipated: characters from GTA 6, Crimson Desert, Resident Evil Requiem, and Phantom Blade Zero.

The 80 Most Anticipated Games Of 2026

The definitive list of every anticipated game of 2026, from obvious big hitters to the lesser known gems.

Dispatch poses a conundrum for Telltale. On the one hand, its success proves there is still a hunger for the Telltale formula out there. On the other hand, it does feel a little bit like an indication that the Telltale magic has well and truly left the building.

Motive Iron Man Game

Motive’s untitled Iron Man game might have had a job listing posted in the summer, which might have suggested the game has single player levels. That’s all we know. It does feel as though the chance to strike while the iron is hot has well and truly passed, but perhaps his MCU exploits have elevated Iron Man to the level of a truly timeless hero.

With Black Panther and Captain America’s 1943: Rise of Hydra game delayed into this year and the cinematic return of Avengers, the addition of Iron Man could make 2026 the year we see Marvel return to a stature of culture domination after a disappointing showing last year.

The Witcher Remake

A ttitle card revealing The Witcher remake.

Announced in 2022, CD Projekt Red has been pretty busy since then, fixing Cyberpunk 2077 and adding the Phantom Liberty expansion, moving on to a sequel, and starting development on The Witcher 4; all of which have had some kind of update in 2025. But the remake of the first game has been all quiet on the Rivian front.

Most players will suggest newcomers to the series start with 2 (or even just with 3), so a polish (ha! geddit?) of the first game is well warranted. However, we have no idea what state the game is in right now.

BioShock 4

Technically, we’ve had an update on this game from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick : “It’s going to come out. That I can say hand on heart, without question.”

We Probably Aren’t Going To Hear About These 10 Games For At Least A Year

These announced games are going to need a little more time to cook, but we’re still eager to talk about them in the meantime.

I don’t think we can reasonably count that as new information on a game that has been in development since 2019, although given various leaks have suggested development turmoil since then, it’s at least something positive. Other than that and some vague leaks that suggest BioShock 4 will look BioShocky, we’re as in the dark as we’ve ever been on this one. At least Ken Levine is making basically the same game in Judas.

Okami Sequel

The title reveal screen for the Okami Sequel at the end of the reveal trailer.

As was to be expected, when the long awaited sequel to Okami was revealed at the end of The Game Awards in 2024, we were warned it was years away, and updates would be few and far between. So it has proven, but Okami remains firmly lodged in the minds of many gamers who grew up with Amaterasu by their side.

It may well wind up on this list next year too, but if the sequel is as good as the original Okami, it will be more than worth the wait.

Killer Bean Game

KillerBean

Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024 for some reason, this procedurally generated action roguelike saw you play as the Killer Bean from those memes that were a little old even then. We’ve heard nothing on the game since, and that might be for the best.
