Slay The Spire 2 Fans Are Worried Silent Is Too Overpowered

Slay the Spire 2 is here, and it’s boasting some pretty impressive numbers right out of the gates — at least enough to accidentally embarrass Bungie’s Marathon anyway. This is all despite the game being in Early Access, and just like most games at that stage of development, it seems as though Slay the Spire 2 is in need of a few important tweaks.

This is according to one Slay the Spire veteran who goes by JapaneseExport on Reddit, who has racked up 10,000 hours in the original (thanks GamesRadar), and claims to be one of the top five best players in the world. Essentially, this is the opinion of someone that knows what they’re talking about, and they reckon that one of Slay the Spire 2’s characters is “very worrying” at the moment.

Silent Seemingly Needs Some Tweaks, And It’s All Sly’s Fault

In a recent post on the Slay the Spire subreddit, Japanese Export explains that they’ve been playing a bunch of Slay the Spire 2 in order to see what the card balance is like this time around, and what could do with some tweaks. With the game being in early access, feedback from massive fans will undoubtedly be vital to make sure MegaCrit gets the game’s balance.

After Passing Marathon In Concurrents, Slay The Spire 2 Absolutely Roasted Bungie On Twitter

“Don’t let small indie passion projects like this pass you by.”

As for what they’ve found, it seems as though JapaneseExport is particularly worried about a character called Silent, who they declare as “hands down the strongest character” in the game at the moment, and that even decent Slay the Spire 2 players could pick her and probably succeed with little problems.

“The discard cards and early damage cards that Silent has are WAY too strong,” says JapaneseExport. “When I have any good damage card I can skip the large majority of my rewards and be completely fine.”

Silent’s strength is apparently due to an ability called Sly, which allows players to automatically play cards they discard. It’s a strategy that’s so busted at the moment that it doesn’t really make sense to use any other strategies, basically forcing players down one particular route with Silent and making the character a lot more one-dimensional.

“The numbers need tweaking in order to incentivize other strategies to shine,” JapaneseExport writes. “Every run feels like it leads me to the same thing, and the core powers from Spire 1 are still in the game that trivialize a lot of encounters.”

Thankfully, Slay the Spire 2 is in a position where MegaCrit can make some pretty big changes if it needs, as the game is in early access. With people like JapaneseExport giving out feedback of this magnitude, you can definitely be sure that Slay the Spire 2 is in pretty good hands and many people are out there hoping it the game becomes another masterpiece.
