There’s been a ton of talk this generation of PS5 being unable to support the ambitions of Japanese developers alone.

(Capcom even recently alluded to the price of Sony’s console as being an obstacle to Monster Hunter Wilds’ success.)

But when it comes to Silent Hill F, the title’s Japanese horror setting has served it well.

According to Famitsu, the game sold 57,475 units during its first week at retail. Remember, this number excludes digital sales through the PS Store, so it’s not the full picture.

But it’s almost double what Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake managed at launch, as that topped out at a still respectable 29,374 units.

And it’s within touching distance of the original PS2 Silent Hill 2, which sold around 69k units at a time when digital wasn’t a factor at all. In fact, even with conservative estimates, it’s likely Silent Hill F is already above the legendary entry.

In fact, depending how well it’s done digitally, it’s possible it’s within the region of the original Silent Hill, which debuted with 103k units on the PS1 at retail.

So, these are very good numbers, and a clear indication that Silent Hill is back on the map in a big way.

Of course, the game has already raced to over one million units worldwide, so it’s performing well globally, too. All of this is extremely positive news for the future of the franchise.
