While completing Side Missions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC, if you take a stroll over to the Justice Dojo then you might stumble upon Side Mission 172: Sawk vs. Throh. This mission will require you to use one of these Pokemon, so while you can start the Side Mission as soon as you finish Main Mission 9, you won’t be able to complete it until you’ve caught either Sawk or Throh.
During the Side Mission, you’ll be choosing a side, so you won’t actually need both to complete the mission. That said, they generally spawn in the same Hyperspace Wild Zones together, so if you find one, then you should find the other, which means you’ll have the choice between the two for the Side Mission.
How To Find Sawk and Throh
Since you’ll need one of these Pokemon to complete the Side Mission, it’s a good idea to go ahead and have one in your box before you start the Side Mission. Both Sawk and Throh spawn in Fighting-type 3-star+ Hyperspace Wild Zones. You should be able to see them in the Wild Zone summary, but if you don’t see any Zones with either Pokemon listed, you can rest to reset the Hyperspace Distortions.
If you’re going to be continuously resting to reset the Hyperspace Distortions, it’s quicker to do this in your bed in the hotel than it is to do it on a bench.
Once you see a Hyperspace Distortion spawn with these Pokemon inside, prepare a donut with Ansha that will give you enough time to search for and catch them. If you would like to try to catch a shiny or alpha Pokemon, now would also be the best time to prepare a donut with alpha and sparkling power.

Side Mission 172: Sawk Vs. Throh
Once you have either Sawk or Throh, head to the Justice Dojo to start the quest. You should see Ivor standing in the middle of the Dojo with two other NPCs. Upon interacting with them, you’ll find out that the two NPCs are Lence and Freppe. As you might have guessed, one is a Throh supporter, and the other is a Sawk supporter, so they’d like you to settle their argument about which Pokemon is better.
At the moment, there seems to be a glitch with this quest where it can disappear if not completed when it initially populates. So if you do see it, it’s highly recommended that you go ahead and complete it. If you’re not seeing the quest but have met the requirements, there’s currently no known fix, and it’s recommended that you attempt completing other Side Missions to see if it reappears.
To choose which side you’d like to support, you’ll need to put either Sawk or Throh in your party as the only Pokemon in your party. Once you have only Sawk or Throh in your party, speak with Ivor again. You’ll watch a brief cutscene where several Throh and Sawk Pokemon fight each other before you’re pulled into a battle against the NPC for the Pokemon you didn’t choose.
The choice is yours, and you can win this battle with either Pokemon, but Throh is generally the better option because of its move pool and base stats. That said, if you only find one, just use whichever one you find first.
The battle will be a one-on-one fight, and their Pokemon will be level 80, so you’ll want yours to be at least this level as well, but preferably higher. If your Pokemon is level 100, which is easy enough to do with the amount of EXP Candy found in Distortions, you should be able to two-shot their Pokemon.
As for what moves you should have on your Pokemon, Zen Headbutt is your best option. Both Pokemon are weak to it, and both can learn it with the TM. If you don’t have access to Zen Headbutt, then Close Combat should still do more than enough to take out your opponent with a few hits.
You will be able to heal during the fight, so be sure to stock up on a few healing items, especially if you’re going in under-leveled, which is not recommended.
Once you’ve defeated your opponent, you’ll watch another brief cutscene and be awarded with 5,400 Pokemon Dollars, as well as the TMs for Low Sweep and Circle Throw. With that, the Side Mission will be complete, and you’re free to move on to the next one.
