SEGA’s Jet Set Radio Reboot Has Its Work Cut Out, as Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Dev Teases Its Next Game

Team Reptile, the development studio behind the cult hit Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, has announced its next title, and it looks like another Jet Set Radio-style game.

It’s called Hyperfunk, and it’s heading to “PC and consoles”, with no date in sight yet. Here’s the teaser:

Hyperfunk looks like a direct follow-up to what the studio achieved with Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It casts you as a member of a gang, competing against others to rule the streets with stylish combos and graffiti tags.

Whether it’s inline skates, BMX, or skateboarding, your tricks and combos will fuel your boost pack, allowing you to travel at crazy speeds through the city.

It seems you’ll be able to play online or off, teaming up with other players to battle for supremacy or going it alone.

As mentioned, it’s another game that looks and plays very similarly to SEGA’s fan favourite Jet Set Radio series — which happens to be making a comeback of its own.

As part of the publisher’s push to revive some classic franchises, JSR is one of the games in the works, though we’ve seen extremely little of it so far.

Hopefully it can live up to its legacy, but in the meantime, Team Reptile is very much carrying the torch for this very specific, arcadey-style sports game.
