Resident Evil Requiem was always going to be one of 2026’s biggest games. The series has undergone something of a resurgence since 2017’s Biohazard and 2019’s Resident Evil 2 Remake, and audiences new and old have flocked to Capcom’s survival horror franchise.
With Requiem’s release just a few short hours ago, it’s evident how popular the series is once again, as it’s already cracked the top ten player count charts of all time on Steam, and in doing so, has become the biggest Resident Evil launch on the platform.
Resident Evil Requiem’s Player Count Is Already In The Top Ten For A Single-Player Game On Steam, Ever
Within just an hour and a half of its release, 267,509 players were concurrently playing Resident Evil Requiem on Steam, according to SteamDB. That’s the 56th-highest concurrent player count the platform has ever seen, and when you remove all the titles with a multiplayer component, it’s the tenth-highest ever.

While the game is unlikely to reach the heights of the likes of Black Myth: Wukong or Cyberpunk 2077, it has only been out for mere hours. Typically, games reach their concurrent player count peaks on Steam over launch weekend, so there is every possibility that Requiem consolidates its position far higher up the list over the coming days.
In its opening hours, Resident Evil Requiem overtook the likes of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Stardew Valley, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, alongside all previous Resident Evil titles.

Following its reviews, Requiem became the highest-rated new Resident Evil title in over 20 years. At TheGamer, our reviewer Jade King scored the game a 4/5, saying, “It’s reached a point where anxiety-inducing horror and over-the-top explosive action can exist in tandem rather than cannibalising one another into tragic irrelevance. Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft engage in a delicate dance where all of their complicated steps work together in relative harmony despite some minor missteps.”
