Reports: Apple’s iPhone Fold Is Crease-Free, But It May Cost ,400

Apple has successfully developed a foldable iPhone that eliminates the visible crease usually found along the hinge of foldable devices, Chinese outlet UDN reports, citing supply chain sources.

Samsung is supplying the inner display panel, but Apple has been heavily involved in deciding the panel’s design, materials, and lamination method, the report adds. In the process, Apple mastered the tech behind the hinges and ended up using a liquid metal that’s delicate in feel but has low deformation and high toughness.

Supply chain sources see this as a major breakthrough for the foldable iPhone and claim that the device has entered its pre-mass production stage. The report also states that Apple will probably call it the “iPhone Fold,” which is expected to launch in September 2026.

Don’t expect it to be cheap, though. According to a report by Fubon Research, the iPhone Fold could cost nearly $2,400, a bit higher than both Samsung’s and Google’s foldable flagships. Barring discounts, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at $1,999, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold starts at $1,799.

We have heard of the iPhone Fold’s creaseless design before. In February, Korean publication ETNews reported that Apple had achieved the design and was finalizing component suppliers.

Other features rumored to roll out with the foldable include four cameras—two on the front and two at the back, a decent 5,000mAh or higher battery, and a potential return of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. It’s also expected to be eSIM only.

The iPhone Fold’s launch could also mark a shift in Apple’s release schedule. Rumors suggest that starting next year, the fall event may be reserved for just three high-end models: the Fold, Pro, and Pro Max. The base, budget, and Air variants could move to a separate launch window early in the year, beginning in 2027.

Apple is also expected to overtake Samsung as the world’s largest smartphone maker soon. Samsung has held the top spot for quite some time, while Apple hasn’t sat on the throne since 2011.
