Remember last year, just before the world started to burn for the 47th time, when a Cheeto that looked just like the Pokemon Charizard, and was dubbed “Cheetozard”, found fame on the internet? You’ll also remember then, for some reason, that single chip sold for $87,840 (£69,806 / €84,653) at auction — an obscene amount of money for a spicy piece of corn.
It turns out, though, that $87,000 got its purchaser more than just the special Charizard Cheeto, as they have just been handed a Guinness World Record.
The Cheetozard Cheeto Has Just Earned Its Buyer A Guinness World Record
Cheetozard’s anonymous buyer (although there are photos of him out there…) was just handed a certificate cementing their Guinness World Record for the “highest price paid for a videogame likeness corn snack.” The certificate reads:
“The highest price paid for a videogame likeness corn snack is $87,840 (£69,806) for “Cheetozard”, a Cheeto piece shaped like the iconic Pokemon Charizard, sold by Goldin on 2 Mar, 2025″.
The official Guinness World Records page details that the 3-inch chip was mounted on a custom Pokemon card bearing the Cheetozard name, and was “enclosed in a special translucent box just in case any viewers get a little too hungry.” Apparently, the chip is “so fun and unique” because it “bridges two fandoms – Pokémon and Cheetos,” the second of which is a fandom I never knew existed.
Perfect Order Could Be Just The Tonic For The Current Pokemon TCG Hype
Perfect Order might not be the best Pokemon TCG expansion, but it could help cool things off before the 30th anniversary set.
The chip turned a healthy profit for its original buyer, who purchased it for $350 before encasing it sometime between 2018 and 2022.
The extremely specific record brings the bizarre Cheeto saga to an end, at least for now. Goldin, the auction house that sold the Cheetozard, has another Pokemon-shaped Cheeto ready to go. Pikacheeto, is a Cheeto shaped like none other than Pikachu, once again mounted on a custom card. The auction doesn’t have a start date yet, but it’s set to begin at $500 and will likely go for much, much more.
This is the second Pokemon world record beaten in recent times. Just last month, Logan Paul’s infamous PSA 10 Illustrator Pikachu was sold for over $16 million at auction, showing the world that people are willing to throw silly money around to ensure they Catch ‘em All.
