Last month, at the year-end presentation of The Game Awards, Remedy revealed that the inevitable and previously leaked Control 2 was indeed real.
Titled Control Resonant, the sequel, which has been given a 2026 release window, will let players take control of Dylan Faden, “as he fights for his humanity and survival against a reality-bending cosmic threat.”
Flash forward a month, and Remedy, which has been relatively quiet since the real outside a post on the PlayStation Blog, has taken to social media to share a bit more about its next game following the failure of FBC Firebreak.
Specifically, Control Resonant won’t be a “safe sequel.”
Right now, it isn’t entirely clear what Remedy means by a “safe sequel.” In the wake of the failure of FBC Firebreak, Remedy’s co-founder and interim CEO Markus Mäki stated that for the company to get back to profitability it would need to deliver “great” and “distinctive” games that are commercially successful.

Even then, Alan Wake 2, which by no means was “safe,” needed over an entire year on store shelves for it to be profitable, having spent an entire year of only recouping development costs and needing an eventual physical edition to help get there.
Whatever the case may be, fans of Remedy are ready for what’s next, and have some hopes of how things can get there.
Remedy Is Always Full Of Surprises, And These Fans Are Ready
Over on Reddit, in response to word that Control Resonant wouldn’t be “safe,” fans discussed what that could mean and ultimately what their hope for the sequel could end up looking like.
“They showed up to the Game Awards with the best trailer, and they’re Remedy, and they’re doing another Control game,” one user wrote. “The Oldest House in Control is one of the best settings a video game has ever had, and The Dark Place in Alan Wake II is right up there with it. … It’ll be a GOTY contender at least, and GOTY at best.”
One fan did caution that by calling the game the opposite of “safe,” it could set unrealistic expectations. That’s a fair assessment if it turns out the game is just more of Control, albeit with a different character and different gameplay style.
“I just hope it’s actually fun to play and has some thought put behind it,” another player wrote. “I loved Control’s atmosphere, but the gameplay was mind-numbingly boring because Launch was the only viable attack and the service weapons weren’t that great. There were only very few enemy types too. Gameplay was the game’s biggest weakness.”
Another fan, who highlighted all of Remedy’s latest titles and their distinctions, Resonant is Remedy simply being themselves.
“Love this studio for how each game will have some similar traits but will be completely different from one another,” they wrote.
Indeed. Here’s hoping Resonant is everything fans have hoped a sequel to Control could be.
