Rayman 1 Remake Leaked By Series Creator

Rayman 1 Remake Leaked By Series Creator

Rayman series creator Michel Ancel seems to have accidentally confirmed the rumours of an upcoming remake, and even revealed some of the first details of what appears to be the “Anniversary Edition”.

Although Rayman fans have had a very rough time in the nearly 13 years since Rayman Legends first released, things have at least started to look up recently. Ubisoft has confirmed that a new game is in development, and there are even rumours that more than one project is in the works for the vegetable thingamajig.

For a while now, it’s been rumoured that the first project we’re going to be getting is a remake of the very first Rayman, which is apparently happening “very, very soon”. Those rumours gained even more grounding when a 30th Anniversary Edition of Rayman recently received an age rating, something that’s been cemented even more by Rayman’s creator.

A Rayman Remake Basically Just Got Confirmed By The Series Creator

It Sounds More Like A Re-Release, Though

As pointed out by Twitter user raymanmerch, Retro Gamer recently shared a massive deep dive into the history of Rayman to celebrate his 30th anniversary. That report included an interview with series creator Michel Ancel, who was previously confirmed to be involved in some capacity with the new projects in development.

Rayman 2 Would Be Worth Breaking My Remake Rule For

Despite a general distaste for remakes, I’d be willing to make an exception for Rayman 2.

Ancel didn’t just share his thoughts about Rayman’s history, though, as he also basically confirmed all of the rumours of a remake of the first game. While chatting about the Rayman that started it all, Ancel says that there’s a “kind of remake planned”, although he doesn’t know exactly when it’s coming.

There’s a kind of remake planned. I don’t remember when specifically, but it will be in HD and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and things like that just to make it a bit less frustrating. – Michel Ancel

Not only did Ancel confirm that the first Rayman is getting a remake, but he also shared the first details about it. The re-release will be in full HD and will also add more checkpoints to make things a bit easier. It’s not clear if there’s anything more to the remake than that, but it certainly sounds like the 30th Anniversary Edition that recently leaked.

If the details are true, then calling this new version of Rayman a remake might be a bit of a stretch. It sounds a lot more like the kind of work that Digital Eclipse do when re-releasing classic games, with some quality of life features and updated visuals. We’ll have to wait and see to find out more, but it’s clearer than ever that something to do with the first game is coming very soon.
