Pokemon Pokopia is one of the most ambitious, most unusual Pokemon games we’ve seen in quite some time. The game was born from its director, Shigeru Omori’s, early experiences with Game Freak, in which their first job was “placing grass patches on the map of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire.”
This idea, with the help of Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force studio (Dynasty Warriors), blossomed into Pokemon Pokopia, a Pokemon-centered life sim in which a Ditto is the protagonist.
While you may be lulled into the thought that creating a life sim wouldn’t be too much trouble for a seasoned studio like Omega Force, you would be wrong, with Chief Director and Koei Tecmo stalwart, Takuto Edagawa (Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Heroes), revealing that the game took more human development resources than any other title developed by Omega Force.
Pokemon Pokopia Had The “Largest Number” Of Developers Of Any Omega Force Title
Speaking to Japanese outlet Famitsu (and translated by us here at TheGamer), Edagawa was asked about the scale of Pokopia’s development.
“I can’t give you a specific number of people,” he told them. “But this is the largest number of people involved in any game developed by Omega Force to date.”

Despite providing so many staff, Edagawa refuses to take all the credit for himself and his studio, detailing just how deep the collaboration with Game Freak went.
“Every element of this game was created together with Game Freak and The Pokémon Company,” he said. “We were able to collaborate on the development in a very good relationship. I think that the results are evident in the game.”
As you might imagine, with Pokemon so protective of its property, Game Freak was the one to create the new creature designs, including Peakychu, Mosslax, and Professor Tangrowth, something Edagawa said left the Omega Force team “amazed and excited”.
Unlike Animal Crossing, Pokopia Won’t Limit Players On How Much Can Be Done Per Day
Do what you want, when you want.
Our very own Jade King went hands-on with Pokopia, and it looks like Game Freak and Omega Force’s hard work is paying off. In her preview, she said, “While I can see the moment-to-moment gameplay reaching a natural point of diminishing returns eventually, after a couple of hours with Pokopia, I’m smitten.”
