Right now, Pokemon Pokopia is all the rage on the Nintendo Switch 2, and for good reason, too. It is one of the highest-rated Pokemon games ever, a rare feat when you consider just how many Pokemon titles have released over the years and just how many have been well-received.
Its popularity has been enough to force even Game-Key Card haters to purchase a physical edition of Pokopia, so much so that the game is virtually sold-out everywhere and has even seen an unexpected price increase on Amazon, though that seems to have evened out.
Now, its popularity is giving owners of the original Switch some serious FOMO, as the Switch 2 exclusive has all but convinced them to upgrade their console.
“I am about to use my tax returns on a Switch 2 for Pokopia lol,” one user wrote in response to a thread all about missing out on Pokopia.
“This is the first time I’ve considered getting the Switch 2,” another user wrote. “That game looks fun. I’m still trying to hold out for a sale cause I really don’t need it.”
Others are using the recently-released ports of FireRed and LeafGreen to take some of the sting out of not having the latest Pokemon title available to play.
I Wish All The Pokemon In Pokopia Weren’t My Best Friends
Having all of my Pokemon dote on me is adorable, but Pokopia also has a major friction problem.
Meanwhile, the potential for a price increase on the Switch 2 has some rethinking their choice. Pokopia’s release is merely an excuse to justify the big purchase.
“This is why I am on the verge of getting a Switch 2 but Pokopia accelerates it,” one gamer added.
It’s worth noting, while Nintendo has not outright confirmed a price increase, recent reports indicate that the company may not have any other choice with the current market conditions, putting extra pressure on people to upgrade before it becomes out of reach.
When It Comes To Exclusives, Pokemon Is The Great Equalizer
In its near-year of availability, the Switch 2 has had some great exclusives, including Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders. However, some of its more long-awaited titles, Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, were also available on the original Switch.
That made the prospect of upgrading not nearly as enticing. However, Pokemon truly is the great equalizer in any of this, and combining it with some of the cozy stylings of Animal Crossing is a match made in heaven.
As evidenced by these gamers, it’s enough to potentially force their hand.
