Pokemon has so many plush types that it’s hard to keep track of them all. Its most sought-after, however, are the ones The Pokemon Company outsources to toymakers who are famous for their plushes the world over. Build-a-Bear is one of those companies, and Quaxly is the latest to join its Pokemon family.
Quaxly Has Arrived At Build-A-Bear
Quaxly’s plush was officially revealed by Build-a-Bear this week and is available now through the toy store’s website for $59.50. That’s a pretty steep price for a plush, but there are a few reasons it’s so expensive. Chief among them is the branding – it’s both an official Pokemon product and made by Build-a-Bear – but also Pokemon’s Build-a-Bear plushes are part of bigger bundles.
You get more than just Quaxly for the almost $60 asking price. Build-a-Bear plushes set themselves apart from others on the market not just because of their higher quality, but also because you can dress them and make them talk. Quaxly has both of those extras for no additional cost.
The Water-type comes dressed in an orange and blue tank top I assumed was a life jacket at first. It has now occurred to me that would be silly, as why would a Water-type Pokemon need something that helps you swim? As is the case with other Build-a-Bear Pokemon plushes, Quaxly also has a five-in-one voice chip. Press the plush duck’s foot, and it will make noises like the ones Quaxly makes in the Pokemon anime.
Yamper Has Joined Pokemon’s Build-A-Bear Collection
Build-A-Bear now has a Yamper bundle. Form an orderly virtual line, please.
You Can Now Find All Three Paldean Starter Pokemon At Build-A-Bear
Quaxly’s arrival at Build-a-Bear means every Pokemon you are tasked with choosing between at the start of Scarlet & Violet is now part of the range. Fuecoco and Sprigatito beat Quaxly into the collection and are available now, each with their own plushes, outfits, and voice chips. Somewhat surprising that Fuecoco made it in before Quaxly, but not so much for Sprigatito, as Pokemon’s grass cat has very much been pushed as a potential replacement for Pikachu for the next generation of Pokemon fans.
That all three Paldean partner Pokemon are now at Build-a-Bear is evidence that, in some facets, Pokemon is well aware that it needs to start catering more to younger fans. Its first Lego sets do not reflect that. Three have been revealed so far, all of which will be released on Pokemon Day, and all of them are geared towards adult Pokemon fans. The most expensive of the trio costs $650. You could buy all three Paldean Build-a-Bear plushes three times over for less than that.
