Pokemon Fans Are Realising That Some Pokemon’s Height And Weight Are Complete Nonsense

Pokemon’s Pokedex entries regularly come under scrutiny. More often than not, it’s for the frankly horrifying descriptors that accompany certain Pokemon. Spoink dies if it stops bouncing, Yamask is the ghost of a dead human that carries a mask of its former face, and Froslass freezes the people it likes to take them back to its lair as decorations. This is a kids’ game, remember.

Perhaps then, that’s why Game Freak didn’t pay much heed to the heights and weights of some Pokemon in its games, because many of them are utter nonsense. Fans are now calling that nonsense out.

Pokemon’s Heights And Weights Just Make No Sense

Many Pokemon are presented as giant, hulking monsters. Their Pokedex entries, however, couldn’t be further from that, though, and players have come together to debate which ones make the least sense.

Teeny-Tiny Lucario

Lucario in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Lucario was the discussion starter. In a thread started by Apprehensive_Ring_39, they said, “I cannot believe Lucario is only 3’11, like I always thought he was, at the bare minimum, 5 feet tall, but he is stupidly short.” And they aren’t wrong, 3’11 is exceptionally short.

3’11 is roughly the height of a 6 or 7-year-old child. It’s a Steely fighting machine, which can fire Aura Spheres from its hands, and it’s the height of a young child. It’s shorter than Mr. Mime, Gastly, and Kingler. Not a serious Pokemon.

Lucario defenders did suggest that it’s the height of a real-life Wolverine, but in a world in which keys come to life and balloons drag children into the woods, a little creative freedom would be fine.

Average Human Charizard

Mega Charizard Y in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Charizard feels like it should be huge. It’s a dragon that breathes fire after all. But it’s not, and it comes in at a measly 5 feet 7 inches. This makes it slightly smaller than the average human male, who stands at 5 feet 7.5 inches.

Given that trainers ride around on Charizard’s back for fun, you’d assume it would at least be bigger than them, but according to its Pokedex entry, it’s probably not. Its diminutive size was probably best summed up by one commenter who said, “I’m sorry, but there is no way I’m taller than Charizard. Like, how is he 5’7?”

Groudon And Kyogre, The Not-Kaiju Kaijus

Groudon raises from the ground covered in sand in the Pokemon anime.

Groudon is another Pokemon that came up in discussions. You’d think from the fact that it “raised lands and expanded continents by evaporating water with raging heat,” that it’d be huge, but again, it’s not.

It’s still double the height of Charizard, coming in at 11’06”, but from that description, you’d think it’d be three times that size.

Megasean3000 said of the Pokemon, “In canon it’s around 11 feet, which is big, but in games, anime, manga, and other media, it’s depicted as a kaiju-sized monstrosity.”

Its adversary, Kyogre, isn’t much bigger either. It is three feet bigger than Groudon, sure, but as a Pokemon that literally created the sea, you’d think it’d be bigger than a great white shark.

The Weight Dilemma

The heights of Pokemon are one cause of distress for fans, but their weights aren’t much better either. Registeel, a literal steel golem, weighs 452 pounds, Regirock, its Rock-type equivalent, weighs 507 pounds, and Tyranitar just 445 pounds. All of which were raised by CheekySweater.

Gyarados, a sea serpent, weighs more than all three, and Golurk, which is a ghostly equivalent to the Regis, adds an extra 50 percent onto their weight, coming in at 728 pounds.

Come on, Game Freak, sort it out.
