An analyst has claimed that the PlayStation 6’s release is likely to be delayed “longer than many expected”, but it seems like most gamers agree that it’s completely necessary for the PS5.
This might be hard for you to believe, but we’re approaching six years since the PlayStation 5 was first released at the tail end of 2020. As great as the PS5 is, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks that this generation has really lived up to the hype, especially since you can count the number of PS5 exclusives on two hands.
For some time now, it’s been suggested that PlayStation is likely to extend the PS5’s lifecycle, as it would usually be preparing to enter the next generation by now. Those reports have recently been doubled down on by an analyst, who says that the PS6’s release is likely to be delayed “longer than many expected”.
Don’t Expect The PS6 To Release Any Time Soon, Analyst Predicts
At Least We All Agree That’s Not A Bad Thing
As reported by VGC, David Gibson, a senior analyst at MST Financial, recently shared a report on Sony Group’s current performance and what could be next for the company. There are a lot of insights into how Sony is doing, but one of the big takeaways from the report is that Gibson thinks the PS6 isn’t going to be coming any time soon.

PlayStation Needed Stellar Blade More Than Stellar Blade Needed PlayStation
Shift Up is seemingly leaving PlayStation exclusivity behind for Stellar Blade 2.
Gibson says that “Sony expects the PS5’s lifecycle to be extended” and that the “PS6’s release is likely to be delayed longer than many expected”, suggesting that we won’t be seeing it for another few years. While Sony has mentioned the next generation of PlayStation before in the past, Gibson thinks that it’ll be a while until it actually comes out.
While you might think that claim would annoy PlayStation fans who are eager to see what the next generation holds, it seems like everyone is actually in agreement that it’s completely necessary. Twitter user mrpyo1 said that not many people will be upset if the PS6 comes out closer to 2030, since the PS5 needs time to “shine” and the generation feels like it “just started”.
The replies to IGN’s tweet are full of similar sentiments, with many agreeing that the PS5 still has “a lot of potential” and doesn’t need a successor to be rushed out. One fan even points out that there’s no real rush since “Xbox has thrown in the towel”. PlayStation has likely already made its mind up about the PS6’s release, but it looks like no one is that worried if it takes a bit longer.
