It’s been over 3,300 days since the release of Persona 5 in Japan. On September 15 next year, it will have been 10 years. Of course, we’ve had Persona 5 Royal since then, alongside Persona 3 Reload and a host of other spin-offs, but the 3,300 days since the last mainline release and what will eventually be Persona 6 is by far the longest gap between games in the series.
For reference, there were three years between Persona and Persona 2, seven years between Persona 2 and Persona 3, only two between 3 and 4, and then eight between Persona 4 and Persona 5. It’s been a while.
Although we know it exists, the wait has been excruciating. But the hints do keep coming. For the first time ever, in an official Atlus survey, the company has mentioned the game by its Persona 6 name, referencing potential Revelations: Persona and Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment remakes in the process.
There Have Only Been A Handful Of Occasions, But Persona 6 Has Been Name-Dropped By Atlus Again
Persona 6 is no secret. In 2021, the game was casually mentioned in an interview with the Persona team about its latest job openings, and in June, Persona series director Kazuhisa Wada said that “work is progressing well” on “the future development of the Persona series”. That’s about as good as it gets, though.
Our next official hint comes by way of a new survey that Atlus has sent to Persona 3 Reload Switch 2 buyers (via ScrambledFaz on Twitter), which asks players what future Persona game they are most looking forward to.
The survey offers options for potential Persona 1 and Persona 2: Innocent Sin/Eternal Punishment Remakes, the recently revealed Persona 4 Revival, and, most notably, Persona 6. This is the first time Atlus has mentioned Persona 6 by name in one of its many surveys, suggesting the company is becoming more confident in the state of the game.
Despite nothing official, rumors have been circulating about the game for some time now. As far back as September 2023, it was suggested that Persona 6 was planned for 2026, and other reports have claimed that the game will, once again, take place in a high school, and that it will feature a green theme, following Persona 3’s blue, Persona 4’s yellow, and Persona 5’s red. In December last year, director Wada refused to rule out the possibility of another female lead, sparking further online speculation.
With The Game Awards just around the corner, our next opportunity for a grand reveal could be close.
