Hideo Kojima can’t stop talking about how different OD will be from a traditional horror game. While he did say that Death Stranding 2 will be decisive only for it to get universal acclaim, the director is adamant that the upcoming horror game will not be as well received by everyone. In fact, even he’s not sure if his vision will come to fruition.
Since it’s a Kojima game, you can expect OD to get really weird. The director is beloved for having a unique vision when it comes to his games, but the horror genre could allow him to take things up a notch. In a recent interview, he said that he couldn’t exactly explain what OD will be, but he’s not certain “if it will work out”.
Kojima Isn’t Sure If OD Will Work Out The Way He Envisions
In a conversation with ananweb (translated by Automaton), Kojima revealed that OD will be very different from any other game from the genre. “I can’t say exactly what it is yet, nor do I know if it will work out. We’ve created stealth games and delivery games which were unlike anything before, but system-wise, they were similar to other games,” he said.
“This time, we’re trying to change the service model from the ground up, so it should be quite challenging. We’ve packed the trailer full of hints, so if you keep thinking about it, you might figure it out.” The reveal trailer was filled with all sorts of cryptic messages, with some even suggesting that it teases Silent Hill.
10 Years Later, Hideo Kojima Is Reclaiming The Cancellation Of Silent Hills With OD
It’s been over a decade since the cancellation of Silent Hills…
Of course, there’s no way of knowing what the final game or narrative will be like until we’ve played it. Remember how confused we all were after the reveal trailer for Death Stranding? As for why it possibly won’t work out, Kojima seems to be deviating from traditional means of video game development, or maybe he just can’t find a real ghost to scan.
I can’t wait to see what Kojima is talking about, and what this new “service model” looks like. If there’s one thing we can expect from him, it’s to create genre-defining games.
