Monster Hunter Wilds Gets Back To “Mixed” Status On Steam

By this point, we’re all aware of the fall from grace that Monster Hunter Wilds experienced following its launch a year ago. The title, which was casually hitting Steam records at launch, quickly became the bane of fans due to its poor optimization that seemingly got worse with every update.

A year, however, is a long time, and in that time, Capcom has continued to toy with the game, for better or worse, and the fruits of that labor are finally starting to show on Steam.

As first spotted by GamesRadar, Wilds now maintains “Mixed” status on Steam, with its recent reviews sitting at “Mostly Positive,” a far cry from the days when the title was in “Mostly Negative” and “Overwhelmingly Negative” territory, and a sign that things have improved enough for users to come back around.

“My biggest issues were performance & difficulty,” one user with 554.8 hours on record wrote. “Harder & harder hunts were added through the updates & the January Update fixed all my stuttering and massive frame drops on the ‘busier’ areas of the game. I can finally give a positive rating. I just hope Capcom & the MH Team learns from this fiasco. Looking forward to the Expansion!”

That level of positivity echoes throughout Steam, with users coming back to share that they can recommend the game after its most recent patches and updates.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t negative reviews, because there are. It’s just that it seems like the game has turned a significant enough corner where positivity is starting to shine through.

A New Expansion Could Lead To Even More Positivity

That run of goodwill could continue into the foreseeable future, especially in light of the fact that Capcom did announce a major expansion for Wilds along the same lines of Sunbreak and Iceborne.

“We are currently at work on a large-scale expansion similar to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, for Monster Hunter Wilds,” said Ryozo Tsujimoto as part of an anniversary update. “We plan to share more information with you this summer.”

Additionally, the title will have an extended in-game anniversary celebration that should tide fans over until then. Continual updates on the game’s performance and stability are also being worked on.

The same way it took a lot for the game to swing negative after a feverish start, it took a lot to come back around. Wilds isn’t exactly out of the woods yet, but there are definite signs of light that weren’t there even as far back as a few weeks ago.
