The cat-breeding roguelike is unstoppable. Mewgenics has been climbing the Steam Charts since launch, and has even managed to topple Hades 2 with an all-time peak concurrent player count of 115,428. Even co-creator Edmund McMillen is surprised at how well it has been received. It’s probably with that in mind that he has announced a DLC and console ports.
Just a few hours ago, McMillen posted on X, revealing that the Mewgenics OST is live on Steam. However, the more exciting news is that it will be coming to consoles at some point and will also be getting a DLC. Unfortunately, no timeline or dates were revealed, but the community is absolutely kicked.
Mewgenics DLC And Console Port Announced
Mewgenics’ PC player count is already through the roof, but a console port will see the numbers soar even higher, bringing PlayStation, Xbox, and possibly Switch into the fold. As for the DLC, McMillen said that it will not be free, as “it’s going to take a lot of work / people.” That’s understandable, considering the base game took so long to build.
While the game is indeed popular, it hasn’t been without controversy. Some of the voice actors have been the subject of controversy: like YouTubers Hilda and Ethan Klein, who have been called out for their views on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and Christine Chandler, who was arrested on charges of incest, with the charges later being dismissed.
McMillen spoke about these casting choices, saying he wanted to include people with “different beliefs”. He added that he wanted to “include and keep [cameos] that clashed or kinda counterbalanced each other.” To prove his point, the dev pointed to the casting of iDubbbz and Anisa, two YouTubers who have been publicly feuding with the Kleins and their opinions.
To add to that, some of the cameos were decided years ago, with Ethan Klein recording his lines four years ago.
