In case you missed it, and I personally hope you didn’t, Mega Man is back, and it’s not some sort of port, remaster or collection. It’s a brand-new game in the form of Mega Man: Dual Override.
It’s coming in 2027, and while it isn’t exactly Mega Man 12, though there are some theories that it could be, it is bringing back all the classic Mega Man vibes, including a Robot Master Design Contest, where fans can submit their art for a chance to be selected and included in the game.
Over on Capcom’s website, fans have a chance to help shape how Dual Override looks while also fulfilling Dr. Wily’s own ambitions.
I need your help to destroy Mega Man! — Dr. Wily
As the official description states, “We’re looking for designs of a Robot Master who has a right arm with immense suction powers! Will your design be the one to face Mega Man in the game!? Draw, Mega Man fans, for everlasting peace!”
The contest runs from December 11 through January 1, and entries are being accepted via X (formerly known as Twitter). Fans are encouraged to use the supplied model included on the website for inspiration and as a basis for their own design.
After January 1, 20 designs will be selected by Capcom to move past the first round. At that point, they’ll be revealed online, with a final six being chosen by fan voting.

Switch Online Added Mega Man 5 For Game Boy And You All Need To Play It
Mega Man 5 is an original game that not enough people played. Now’s your chance to get in on this hidden gem.
The grand prize winner, AKA the design chosen, will have their Robot Master included in the final game. Meanwhile, the remaining five “Excellence Awards” winners will have their names in the credits when Dual Override launches at some point in 2027.
There’s a gamut of rules and requirements you should probably read if you intend on entering. However, we will highlight one specific element that fans ought to know — the entry must be posted on X and only X, otherwise you subject yourself to disqualification.
The Robot Master Design Contest Is A Mega Man Staple
If you’re a longtime Mega Man fan, you’ll know that Capcom has solicited fan designs for some time across many of the core Mega Man titles (Mega Man 2 onward), plus side games like the Battle Network series.
Perhaps most interestingly, Yusuke Murata is a two-time winner of the Robot Master Design Contest. If that name sounds somewhat familiar, especially if you like anime and manga, then it’s because he’s the illustrator of Eyeshield 21 and One Punch Man.
If you’ve not read Eyeshield 21, I highly recommend it, by the way. It’s a excellent sports manga and has an anime adaptation to boot. You don’t have to like American football to enjoy it, similar to not having to like volleyball to enjoy Haikyu!!
Murata is responsible for both Dust Man in Mega Man 4, along with Crystal Man in Mega Man 5.
In other words, it’s helped launch the career of one famous illustrator, and you could be the next, provided you follow all the rules. Best of luck to all who participate!
