Nintendo may have accidentally confirmed that Mario Kart World is going to be updated soon (presumably on Mario Day), but it’s not exactly the most exciting addition.
As if Mario fans didn’t have enough to be excited about already, we’re just a few days away from March 10, also known as Mario Day (Mar10, get it?). Nintendo usually celebrates Mario Day with some announcements and updates to existing games, but we don’t actually know what it’s got planned for us this year.
One of the most reasonable assumptions is some kind of update to Mario Kart World, which is unarguably the biggest Mario game to have released recently. While most of us are hoping that World gets some proper DLC, it looks like what Nintendo has planned is on the smaller scale, and it seems to have accidentally leaked it ahead of time.
Mario Kart World Update Seemingly Leaked By Nintendo
But It’s For, Sigh, Battle Mode
As pointed out by My Nintendo News and highlighted by Redditor Alleywr on the Mario Kart World subreddit, Nintendo recently shared a news post about an upcoming Mario Kart World Open Series that starts on March 5 and runs until March 25, conveniently right through to Mario Day.

Kirby Air Riders > Mario Kart World
There is more fun, charm, and challenge to be found in Kirby Air Riders.
The news post is fairly inconspicuous on its own, but fans have noticed that one of the screenshots used seems to accidentally confirm an update that’s coming for Mario Kart World. One of the shots highlights the rules for each week of the tournament, but it shows that the Battle Mode icon has been replaced with one featuring a Bob-omb.
The new menu icon shows a Bob-omb with a coin and a balloon, which signify Coin Rush and Balloon Battle, implying that the Bob-omb is tied to its own Battle Mode. This, of course, is being taken as a not-so-subtle confirmation that Mario Kart World is getting the Bob-omb Rush mode that debuted in Double Dash and then returned for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
As of the time of writing, Nintendo has pulled the post, seemingly confirming that it has accidentally leaked an update that’s planned for Mario Kart World. While it’s nice to see more content in the game, I think I speak for most of us when I say that it’s not exactly what we were all hoping for.
There’s a chance that Bob-omb Blast is coming alongside some bigger additions to the game, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one.
