Marathon’s Release Date Might Have Just Been Revealed Thanks To Xbox

We might now know the exact date on which the PlayStation-published Marathon will be released, and it’s, somewhat ironically, thanks to what appears to be a pre-order trailer that was shared a little too early by Xbox.

Marathon, which was supposed to be released in 2025 but got pushed into 2026 for various reasons, was recently given a new “March 2026” launch window, but Bungie neglected to provide a specific date. Bungie still hasn’t revealed that date, but a pre-order trailer for Marathon was discovered by Reddit user TheJuicebaba (thanks, VGC) suggests it will be here on March 5, 2026.

Xbox May Have Just Leaked Marathon’s Release Date

Perhaps earlier than some might have assumed, as the vague March window suggested Bungie might need most of the month, if not all of it, to have Marathon ready, but still release it before the end of the current financial year. We can’t confirm whether the trailer was real for sure, of course, and it’s also possible, if real, that it was an older version of the trailer with an outdated or placeholder release date.

The trailer has quickly been taken down, but if the release date is accurate, and Marathon is going to have a pre-order period, then you’d think it will officially go live very soon, maybe even before the end of the day. If Xbox has it, and it was listed on the store’s page ready to go, then there is almost certainly a pre-order period announcement coming, complete with a release date.

Marathon’s Re-Reveal Is A Lot More Popular Than The Trailer Which Caused Its Delay

Marathon might finally be on the right track.

The Leaked Trailer Included More Details About Marathon’s Deluxe Edition

As for the contents of the trailer outside of a potential release date, there’s nothing much we’ve not already seen in terms of gameplay. There were details about the contents of its deluxe edition, though, which will be more expensive than the $40 standard edition of the game. The leaked pre-order trailer includes names of various skins, both for your character and your weapons, as well as a Midnight Decay bundle, which isn’t shown.

The amusing part of all this is that Xbox is responsible for this information finding its way out into the world earlier than planned. PlayStation and Xbox have a still very young working relationship, which has seen various Xbox exclusives come to PS5. We’ll even be getting the Halo remake on PS5. Marathon is one of the few PlayStation-published games to go back the other way, and Xbox has managed to potentially, and accidentally, leak information that PlayStation wasn’t ready to share yet.
