The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy was one of 2025’s most ambitious games. The title, the brainchild of Danganronpa’s Kazutaka Kodaka, Last Defense Academy, aimed to take players through 100 different narrative routes, each with a different ending, set across 100 days.
The title was well received, averaging a score of 85 on Metacritic (and a 3.5/5 from us at TheGamer), but while the fears of bankruptcy for developer TooKyo games have subsided, the team recently revealed that The Hundred Line was yet to reach the “break-even point.”
With plans to break even, release DLC, and support new languages, TooKyo is looking at re-releasing the game with a “value pack,” which includes both The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy and The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy 2. The catch is that the first game included the second game all along.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy Was Actually Two Games All Along
In all my years playing and covering games, I don’t remember an instance where, nine months after launch, a developer has decided/revealed that their game they previously released was actually two games the whole time — but apparently that’s what The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is.
A post on the Hundred Line website (via 4Gamer in Japan) has revealed that The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is being rebranded to the “Value 1 & 2 Pack”. This post suggests that the first game is the first 100 days in school, and the sequel is “where you spend the second 100 days after the first 100 days,” otherwise known as the post-game.

Avoiding spoilers, players typically play through the first 100 days to achieve one ending, and then roll credits. From here, they can replay segments of the game, changing the narrative, and helping them to achieve one of the endings they didn’t achieve the first time around. This second part is what’s being branded as the sequel.
To celebrate the “release of information about Hundred Line 2”, TooKyo is releasing a special edition of the game, which comes with a commemorative sleeve, and is putting the game’s 112-song soundtrack on streaming services.
It’s a bold marketing tactic, deciding your game is actually two games this long after release, but you have to commend TooKyo for doing something so bonkers.
