Happy Black Friday, everyone! Sony’s partaking in the fun with a big PS Store sale, running from now until 1st December, 2025 — so there’s only a few days left.
The Black Friday PS Store sale contains no fewer than 1,900 discounted items, including PS5 and PS4 games as well as DLC — it’s a lot to comb through for most of us.
In order to help find the best games available in the sale, we’ve put together this list of recommendations, all games we reckon are worth considering while they’re going cheap.
Each game on the list has at least a 7/10 from Push Square, and is at its lowest price point, with many of the games lower here than ever before.
Without further ado, here are our recommendations for the Black Friday sale on PS Store.

Vanillaware’s immaculate track record could have easily gone off the rails with 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim — a visual novel and strategy hybrid that’s a far cry from the action RPGs that the studio has become known for. But the finished product is arguably the developer’s most impactful game yet. Fantastic characters and a an utterly gripping narrative make 13 Sentinels a borderline masterpiece in terms of storytelling. A genuine treat for your eyes and your brain.

428: Shibuya Scramble is a fun addition to the PS4’s visual novel stable. Solve a kidnapping, thwart a viral conspiracy, and assist a hapless salesperson in taking off her giant cat costume: Spike Chunsoft’s zany story has charm to spare and is both funny and thrilling while it lasts.

Age of Mythology: Retold is a remastered version of Ensemble Studio’s hugely influential 2002 original. With a fresh coat of HD paint, a visual overhaul for every game unit, and brand new animations, Retold is a nostalgic jaunt for seasoned veterans and an excellent jumping-on point for interested newcomers.

AI: The Somnium Files tells an often engrossing tale. It takes a couple of hours to really get going, but when it does, it blossoms into one of the most impressively executed visual novels on PS4. A range of characters, both surprisingly deep and brilliantly stupid, elevate an already intriguing and smartly paced story.

It’s very hard not to love Ace Attorney, and that trend happily continues with the Apollo Justice trilogy. The games themselves are steeped in charm thanks to well-written, melodramatic stories and a great ensemble cast. They’ve been treated with respect, too, with lovely visual improvements and an enjoyable array of extras. While some weak spots here and there are inevitable, and some of the series’ flaws are still present, overall there’s little to object to.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is much more of an open world RPG than it is a traditional Assassin’s Creed title. The second instalment in the series’ “open world trilogy”, this ancient Greek adventure may overlook a lot of the game design that defined its predecessors, but there’s no denying that its interlocking RPG systems make for a deep and engaging experience. Levelling up, loot, skill trees, and randomised elements like bounty-hunting mercenaries all play a part across a truly gigantic map. The story’s not bad either, as protagonist Alexios or Kassandra embarks on a branching journey to learn the truth about his or her legendary bloodline.

Building upon the great foundations laid in Astro’s Playroom, Astro Bot is the full-blown 3D platformer the little robot deserves. It’s an explosion of creativity and fun; there is something new to discover in practically every level, and all of it is purpose built to put a smile on your face. Not only is it bursting with imagination, it’s also executed brilliantly. The controls are spot on, every new mechanic and power-up is fun to use, and it’s all presented with incredibly sharp visuals and flawless performance. The icing on the cake is its celebration of PlayStation’s past 30 years, with delightful nods to hundreds of classics. We can’t recommend this highly enough.

While many of the included games may border on unplayable from a modern perspective, the painstaking attention to detail in Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is extremely easy to appreciate. The museum-like carousel of content, from interviews through to original artwork, is presented so handsomely that you can’t not get swept up in Atari’s dramatic story. And the fact that there over 100 of the company’s most famous titles, emulated excellently with their original instruction manuals available to pore over, adds playable context to a lot of the content. This is just an impressive overall experience that will appeal to those who lived through the rise (and fall) of Atari, as well as younger players eager to learn a little more about one of the industry’s true pioneers.

Axiom Verge is PlayStation’s very own Metroid. That may sound a teensy bit degrading, but there’s no denying that this and Nintendo’s own space-faring adventure have more than a few things in common. Still, if being compared to one of the most beloved game series of all time isn’t a compliment, then we don’t know what is. If you’ve never seen the appeal of these types of games, then chances are this won’t change your mind. Devoted fans of the genre, however, will no doubt adore Tom Happ’s opus.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden marries an excellent narrative with engaging and enjoyable gameplay. Poor enemy variety and technical flaws hold it back from true greatness, but its excellent, story-focused side quests on the other side make a few drab combat encounters worth pushing through. The studio’s best game to date, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a new IP we hope is here to stay.

Battlefield 6 is a phenomenal multiplayer experience that immerses and impresses with its chaotic mix of tight gunplay, best-in-class audio design, and the cinematic flair that made us love the series in the first place. The campaign isn’t anything to write home about, and Portal has yet to fully prove its worth, but they act as additions to what is easily the best Battlefield in over a decade.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a wonderful love letter to Castlevania fans. It’s gothy, camp, and unabashedly old school. But it’s also a meticulously crafted game that constantly rewards players for exploration and offers unbridled options in combat. For long-time Metroidvania fans, Ritual of the Night is an unmissable celebration of the genre from the mind of one if its chief architects, while for newcomers it’s an accessible entry-point that’s easy to pick up and oh so difficult to put down.

Gearbox’s popular looter shooter is back in typical style with Borderlands 3, and it looks and plays better than ever on PS5. While it doesn’t innovate on older entries all that much, the third game in the franchise is probably the best. Improved gameplay makes the act of firing weapons a joy, there’s a tonne of variety in quests and guns, and that signature love-or-hate humour is very much in place. It shines brightest on Sony’s current-gen machine, too, thanks to boosted visuals and up to 120 frames-per-second on the right display. There are few better co-op shooters out there — this is an absolute blast with friends, whether playing locally or online.

Braid is undoubtedly a classic that revolutionized the indie game landscape, and it still has enough unique ideas to make it worth a playthrough for the first time today. Whether or not the Anniversary Edition is worth it, however, will largely depend on your experience with the original. For newcomers, the enhanced graphics and extra levels make this the definitive edition, and worthy of a purchase. Similarly, up-and-coming game developers will find lots of love and advice poured into the game’s comprehensive commentary system.

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars is a sacred text in the history of point-and-click adventure games, and new remaster Reforged is the best version of the game that’s ever been released. Quality-of-life improvements mean players who just want to enjoy the story without too much lateral thinking can do so, while veterans of the genre or returning fans can play the game in its original form, goats and all. Paris in the fall has never been more beautiful.

Following the launch woes of Modern Warfare 3, the FPS heavyweight series marks a very strong and impressive return to form in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Its single player campaign is one of the franchise’s best-ever efforts, the multiplayer is jam-packed with engaging content, and the Zombies mode seems just as good as it always is when Treyarch is leading things. It never really went away, but Black Ops 6 feels like Call of Duty back at its modern peak.

Cat Quest 3 builds upon the first two entries in this cult favourite series, offering up maybe the best one yet. With a pirate theme introducing nautical traversal and combat, this is a more expansive action RPG that keeps things simple, with that signature illustrated art style and cheeky humour. Those after a lighthearted adventure need look no further.

From the makers of TowerFall Ascension, Celeste is a pure platformer that provides a stern challenge. Using a straightforward set of moves, it does a lot with very little, but it’s not just gameplay where it impresses. Madeline’s climb up Celeste Mountain is both literal and metaphorical as she struggles to overcome her inner demons. Wonderfully pairing a touching story with rock solid platforming, this is one indie adventure that’ll stay with you.

If you’re looking for a breather after those big, violent blockbusters, Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a perfect antidote. This charming indie game will pull you in with its adorable characters and cartoonish aesthetic, but it pairs all that with compelling gameplay and a touching story. You wield a magical brush with which you can paint the environment however you see fit, and you’ll also use colour to solve puzzles and even fight bosses, solo or in co-op. An imaginative and heartfelt game.

Inspired by RPGs new and old, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG with the whole package. Set against the backdrop of a bleak mystery, the game sees a group travelling across a magical landscape to finally put a stop to the enigmatic Paintress and her deadly countdown. While the characters, story, and music all shine, it’s the combat that stands out most, with each party member having totally unique mechanics that can complement the others. On top of that, quick-time events and the ability to dodge or parry incoming attacks keeps it feeling active and engaging. There are some rough edges here and there, but by and large, this is an RPG any fan of the genre shouldn’t miss.
