In an extremely and almost unheard of twist of things, a remake — yes, remake — of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 is reportedly in development, even as an already announced remake of the first Knights of the Old Republic continues to experience developmental trouble.
Word of its existence comes by way of Stephen Totilo and his Game File newsletter, where he reports that as recently as March, the fine folks at Disney and Lucasfilm Games had been planning to remake the beloved sequel.
I made this nice thread, but let’s not kid ourselves. The part people are going to be buzzing about the most is that Disney/Lucasfilm Games, as recently as March, has been planning a full KOTOR II remake Yes, that’s a 2 And, no, not a port…. a full remake. With Obsidian’s cut content back in

What’s more, remember that cut content that wasn’t in the original version? Yeah, it would make it into this version.

Does Anyone Actually Believe That Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Still Exists?
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
Wait, How Did We Get Here In The First Place?
In his latest edition, Totilo explored just how the cut content that was initially slated to be part of the KOTOR 2 port on Switch was killed, and the circumstances surrounding a lawsuit filed by someone over “false advertising,” something that was considered novel but ultimately proved to be an extremely valuable step in finding out what the future of KOTOR held.
In reviewing the depositions, Totilo noticed that there were multiple references to a project titled “Juliet,” which was not the code name of the already released KOTOR 2 port. For reference, that port went under “Capulet.”
What it was is a KOTOR 2 remake that, according to statements from Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly, is “a project where we were going to do a full remake of KOTOR II with modern art, modern gameplay, you know, keep the story and the characters and the general — the general content of KOTOR II, but remake it for modern hardware and modern machines with updated graphics and all those kinds of things.”
It was something we were discussing with Aspyr.
Where it gets interesting is that Reilly was asked if the cut content would be part of that remake, to which he noted that, so long as it related to Star Wars, it would appear.
Specifically, Reilly was asked by an attorney that if there was a planet in the cut content, then would it also appear in the remake?
“That’s the idea,” Reilly said.
It’s important to note that this was in existence as of March. We’re now in December, and Totilo added that he hasn’t been able to confirm its status.
Still, it’s a rather exciting development if true. Though one would have to wonder what this means for the already-in-development and arguably severely troubled KOTOR 1 remake, and how much its up-in-the-air status hampers things moving forward. At the very least, it seems like there were or are plans to make a defintiive copy of KOTOR 2 and that should be enough to get fans going.
