In case you missed it, Slay the Spire 2 has just launched into Early Access on PC and Mac via Steam, and it’s gone absolutely nuclear.
At the time of writing, the game has about 430,000 concurrent players, easily placing it within the most-played titles on Valve’s platform. In pure player numbers, it’s tussling with massively successful games like ARC Raiders, Apex Legends, and Rust.
The game already has about 5,000 user reviews on Steam, 97 per cent of which are positive. Not only are a lot of people playing — they’re almost unanimously singing its praises.
Slay the Spire 2 is the direct follow-up to the excellent Slay the Spire, a genius roguelike deckbuilder with near-limitless replayability.
Developer Mega Crit launched the sequel yesterday, on 5th March 2026, into Early Access.
It plans to stay in Early Access for quite some time, estimating between one and two years before the game reaches its 1.0, finished state.
The big question for us, of course, is if and when the game will come to PS5.
Well, it’s fairly straightforward. In a developer Q&A on Discord (thanks, Reddit), Mega Crit says Slay the Spire 2 will come to “as many [platforms] as humanely possible”.
In a previous statement, the team said it plans to target “Steam for early access and then major consoles and mobile for full release”.
The studio’s focus will be on Steam, first and foremost, likely for the duration of the game’s Early Access stint. After that, it sounds like Mega Crit wants the game to be made available everywhere, and that’ll no doubt include PS5.
It’s worth noting this was the team’s strategy with the original Slay the Spire, launching first on PC and eventually coming to consoles and mobile later down the line.
So, it’ll probably be a while before it comes to PS5 — probably sometime in 2027 — but we’ve no doubt Slay the Spire 2 will be worth the wait.
As huge fans of the first game, we can’t wait to discover all the fun new things the sequel has to offer. We can already see that the art has seen a major improvement, which was one of the weaker aspects of the original.
