How To Unlock Change Appearance And Transmog Equipment Menu
In Nioh 3, you will be able to transmog equipment and change your appearance for the first time since the prologue once you unlock the ‘Change Your Appearance’ feature in the Eternal Rift — the area of which you gain access to at the end of the ‘Hamamatsu Incident’ story mission.
This mission is specifically a major effort where you need to clear the Hamamatsu Town Crucible, needing you to win the Jakotsu-baba boss fight in the final stretch.
If you mainline your time in the time without side missions and exploration to level up before now, it will take you around two to four hours from the start of the game.
If you need time to get to the mission’s recommended level of 14, this can take you anywhere between five and ten hours, depending on how much you explore Warring States.
In the last section of ‘The Hamamatsu Incident’, Ii Naotora will hand you the Guiding Mirror, followed by you suddenly returning to the Eternal Rift — also for the first time since the prologue.

How Transmogging Works And Changing Your Apperance Works
Although the initial wording in this menu within the game makes it sound like you can only change the appearance of your character again, you will also be allowed to transmog your equipment in Nioh 3: meaning you can change the appearance of your pieces of equipment to that of which you choose among what you own — while keeping the stats and abilities of whatever you’ve actually got equipped.
For instance, we had been stuck with the Thief’s Waistguard for our Leg Guard armor — since it had the highest Defense stat and other abilities, despite not suiting the rest of our Ninja Style’s build because they were essentially shorts; thanks to the newly unlocked transmogging at the time in Nioh 3, though, we changed the Thief’s Waistguard’s appearance to that of the Heir’s Shinobi Waistguard.
This way, you get all the added benefits of better-looking gear, without needing to sacrifice the better stats of your worse-looking gear.
As for changing your appearance, you can be taken to the same style of menu you had at the start of the game: letting you readjust anything from your protagonist’s base, body, face, and hair, to facial hair, makeup, and their voice.
Now that you can Fast Travel back to the Eternal Rift whenever you like, you can also change your appearance as often as you need from this point.
Interestingly, the ‘Change Your Appearance’ menu in Nioh 3 also comes with a ‘Transform’ option: specifically allowing you to swap your appearance to that of a character from another save file. If you decide to go for a second run on Nioh 3, this adds a bit of fun to the replay value — since, if you really liked your original protagonist, you can transfer over your previous save’s custom look without having to craft it again from scratch.
