If you’ve been living under a rock and aren’t familiar with streamers doing anything for content, then Pokemon Legends: Z-A is about to teach you firsthand about the importance of those sweet, sweet views. Canari is busy trying to find new ways to get her chat some fresh content, and she needs your help to make it happen.
All you need to do is try to avoid getting KO’d for 30 seconds – easy, right? Well, it’s not as straightforward as it seems, so we’ve got some key tips and tricks for you to survive this all-out Pokemon brawl.
How To Start ‘Be A Defenseless Dodger!’
Your first step is to unlock access to Side Mission 173: ‘Be A Defenseless Dodger!’ by completing Hyperspace Mission 9: Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No.5, which requires you to defeat Canari and Ivor. Once you defeat the dynamic duo, a swath of new side missions will become available across Lumiose City, including this one.
Next, fast travel to Racine Construction on South Boulevard, just southeast of Wild Zone 17, and head inside. Once inside, you’ll find Canari sitting at her computer in the back right corner of the first floor.
Speak to her, and she’ll explain everything about her Defenseless Dodger challenge, including a catch. You’ll need to survive for 30 seconds against a group of Pokemon without using any Pokemon or Poke Balls of your own.
How To Survive During ‘Be A Defenseless Dodger!’
With the gauntlet laid down, Canari gives you some time to prepare for this difficult challenge, so take advantage of it by preparing yourself with an essential item.
Go back outside Racine Construction, where you’ll find a worker offering a variety of Canari Plushes in exchange for your Colorful Screws.
You should max out the Green Canari Plush if you haven’t already. This plush allows you to endure more damage from opposing Pokemon without blacking out, essentially giving you more HP.
While having your Green Canari Plush maxed out isn’t strictly required, it will help make this challenge much easier, especially if you’ve been collecting all the Colorful Screws and have some to spare.
Once your Green Canari Plus is leveled up as much as you can, you’re ready to take on Canari’s Defensless Dodger challenge.
The clock starts at 30 seconds, and a group of Pokemon including a Raichu, Ampharos, and Hippowdon, will begin attacking you with moves like Hyper Beam, Rock Slide, Swift, and Earthquake.
One of the best tricks for surviving is baiting out attacks while you’re in one of the four corners of the room. If timed correctly, this should cause most of the Pokemon to unleash their attacks toward that corner.
Before they attack, you should run and dodge directly through the middle of the arena, so most of their attacks whiff completely.
Hippowdon’s Earthquake is a bit harder to avoid, so steer clear of that attack, and the rest should also miss.
If you’re uncomfortable with risky timing, keep moving and running around the arena, following the outer edge of the room. Doing this makes it difficult for the attacking Pokemon to track you, since any of their attacks should be aimed at where you just were, rather than where you’re going to be.
You will absolutely get hit a few times, but don’t give up if your screen is getting red. Just keep moving, and you should be able to outlast the 30 seconds before the Pokemon can connect with enough attacks to knock you out.
