Aside from the incredibly well-done cutscenes, Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road likes to slow your progress with team Attack and Defense thresholds that keep you from breezing through the story. You’ll need to emulate Destin’s strategic genius with some quick math if you want to min-max your team’s Attack (AT) and Defense (DF) ratings.
Taking it slowly will always be the best way to ensure you’re taking advantage of every opportunity, but there are some small advantages hidden in your inventory. Here are the best ways to level up your AT and DF ratings fast in Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road.
What Are Your Attack & Defense Ratings?
Your team’s overall quality on each side of the ball is located in the bottom left of your Team Dock menu and is broken down into two separate ratings:
- Team AT (Attack)
- Team DF (Defense)
During the course of the story mode, your progress will be capped by Team AT and DF requirements, which can be tough to reach without dedicated grinding, unless you use all pathways to improve your team.

Here’s who you should choose to join the South Cirrus Football Club.
How To Raise Your Team’s Attack And Defense
There are a few major influences on your team’s overall AT and DF:
- Levels
- Gear
- The Abilearn Board
Each player’s level will play an equal role in determining your team’s overall level, and raise your minimum Team AT and DF. To raise your players’ levels quickly, you should:
- Complete side quests
- Play practice matches
- Play story matches
- Use EXP items from your inventory
Raising your level is a straightforward first step that enhances your access to additional helpful features.
How To Improve Players Using The Abilearn Board
A quick way to further improve your players is to use their Abilearn Board.
If you’d prefer not to bother with equipping and re-optimizing your skill beans during the early game when your team sheet is constantly shifting, then you can check the ‘Auto-equip Training Beans’ box in the Equip All menu.
The Abilearn Board allows you to unlock new skills for each player, and reaching certain levels will provide direct bonuses to your stats, which thus improves your overall Team AT and DF.
You should focus on maximizing your star players’ potential first, like Briar and Raika, so that their higher potential ceilings can be used to help you score goals more easily.
How To Equip Gear
Much like with Skill Beans, you can auto-equip your team’s gear by selecting Equip All in the Team Dock Menu, so you don’t have to rearrange each player constantly.
Once you get to mid-game, you should prioritize refreshing your available gear by shopping at stores to ensure you have as many pieces of gear that provide significant boosts, depending on your current level.
Players on your bench outside your squad do not affect your Team AT and DF.
Completing side quests and locating phantom soccer balls will help ensure you have enough tokens to spend on upgrading your gear. Luckily, you won’t need to completely overhaul your entire squad before meeting the necessary threshold to keep the story moving.
