How To Play Atticus In Highguard

Highguard pits two teams of three against one another in a unique hybrid of tower defense, thrown into a frenetic PvP battle. With eight heroes at launch, each with a unique set of abilities, every battle is sure to play out differently than the last.

Raid Mode throws you right into the fray, selecting a Warden and mastering their abilities to grab the Shieldbreaker and infiltrate their tower. Atticus is one of those Wardens, and he’s all about dealing damage. He harnesses the power of lightning to set up situations that give your party an advantage. Here’s how to best play as Atticus in the game.

Atticus’s Ability Overview

Atticus is an Assault character, someone you might consider a DPS as far as classes go. He’s good for setting up situations with his Shockspears for both offensive and defensive situations, and can rain damage from above with his ultimate. Here’s his complete moveset to understand everything he can do.

Shockspear (Tactical Power)

Several shockspears thrown by Atticus around a generator in Highguard.

Atticus will throw a charged spear that hits and sticks to the area it lands. The charged spear will deal continuous damage, shocking any nearby enemies that come within its vicinity. The damage also charges his passive.

You can throw out a total of three Shockspears at once, and once placed, you can pick them up and place them elsewhere. Once you place all three, Shockspear will then go on a 60-second cooldown.

You can also hold the button to properly aim the Shockspear for a bit more control over where it lands.

Supercharged Axe (Passive Power)

This ability releases a shockwave that destroyes neraby Resrouce Nodes to net you Vesper. Vesper is used to trade and purchase items and upgrades, and Atticus is great at collecting the resource thanks to this passive power.

If you complete the QTE when breaking a Resource Node, you get this powerup anyway, without needing to charge it with your Shockspears.

The next Resource Node you hit will also explode, without you having to hit it with the QTE event, when the ability on your Axe is fully charged.

Powerstorm (Ultimate Power)

Atticus rises into the air and rains down spears of lightning-filled destruction. Pressing the button has him rise up with five charges of superpowered lightning spears.

Throwing them down will deal massive damage to both players and structures hit.

During his Ultimate Power, your movement is limited; you can climb higher to help your aim, or you can dive down. You’re mostly confined to the general area you’ve used your power in during this time however, so plan when to use it wisely.

Tips For Playing As Atticus

Atticus is helpful on both offense and defense thanks to his Shockspears. Before the Shildbreaker is ready, placing them near or around it can help your team ambush the opposing team if they’re hidden properly. The unexpected damage will catch the enemy unaware and make them easier to kill.

Understand that if they’re seen, they can tip the enemy off to the fact that you’re around. This brings you to the next point of using them as a distraction.

While this isn’t the best use for your Shockspears, if they’re found, you can always use them to separate yourself from the area while the enemy searches around them to find you.

Hiding them can work really well on specific maps, as can using them in tight tunnels that your enemy team may be forced to go through.

You can block off entire routes with your Shockspears, forcing the enemy into a tough position to go through specific routes for an ambush, or to take damage going through them.

They’re also great to use when infiltrating a base or when yours is being infiltrated. Create choke points using your Shockspears that’ll help you get easy picks on the enemy while they’re inside your base.

You can also use them around you to protect yourself as you sabotage the enemy’s generator to explode their base.

Throw them into a room like a grenade before you enter, creating a line that’ll have the electricity snake through them, covering the entire room with continuous electric damage for a nice advantage when attempting an aggressive push.

Don’t forget you can collect them once they’ve been placed, so you can use them a bit more liberally. Don’t hold onto them the entire match; practice using them regularly.

Regarding your Ultimate Power, be very careful when using this. Due to its limited movement, you won’t be able to rise into the sky and chase an enemy while aloft. If you’re going after an enemy, ensure you have enough space when you use your Powerstorm to do so, and that they can’t outrun you.

You can still be killed in your Ultimate Power. Because of this, do not do it in a confined space such as inside your base. It may be tempting to use it to try to protect your generator, but instead, you just become an easy floating target who can’t move very well.

Don’t forget it’s also a powerful tool for destroying walls and buildings, so using it to create an opening for your team is just as helpful as using it to pick off the enemy.

Saving it for a fight reset when the Shiledbreaker is available and destroying the opposing team in one swoop is a fun way to get a ton of value.

Because you get charge for your Supercharged Axe from breaking Resource Nodes, you should always be collecting Vesper, as it’s easier for you to get than others. This is super helpful for respawning and needing to upgrade or restock on items.

Learn how to use your Shockspears and the right timing for your Powerstorm, and you’ll create several opportunities for your team to take advantage of the enemy.
