Tell us what Warden you like, and we’ll tell you what your future will look like in Highguard. There are a handful of types of characters that focus on different areas, such as recon, defensive options, or going all-out in battles and raids.
Our blonde fire-punch fighter Slade is a member of the last group. He has abilities that give him an advantage when in duels, and if your team has started a raid, you can give massive assistance thanks to his Ultimate. Let’s go over everything you need to know about how to play as Slade in Highguard, including explanations of all his abilities and tips.
Slade’s Abilities Overview
Slade is an Assault Warden, just like Atticus. He focuses on dealing continuous damage and being an offensive character. Below, we will go over all of his abilities.

Highguard: Weapon Tier List
Our tier list guide ranks guns by effectiveness in Highguard.
Heatwave (Tactical Power)
This is the ability that you’ll be using the most. Heatwave lets you throw a wave of fire that goes through walls and objects, and it can reach quite a long range. To use it, you need to aim a straight line at the ground.
Once activated, fire will go in that direction, regardless of obstacles. Any enemy standing on the line will receive damage. Additionally, it can be used to alter the visibility a bit (you can’t see through the wave).
Firebomb (Passive Power)
Slade’s passive is pretty simple. Instead of a regular grenade, he has a Firebomb, which works almost exactly as a grenade: the good part is that when it explodes, it spreads magma around the area of explosion, dealing continuous damage to enemies that touch it.
Firestorm (Ultimate Power)
When it comes to his Ultimate, Slade can mark a big area on the ground, and fire projectiles will fall down in that area. They attack both enemies and buildings.
You’ll see an orange circle marking the area that will be affected, and move it around. But beware that you’ll be left vulnerable, with no chance to attack, while you do so.
Tips For Playing As Slade
When you’re using Slade, you need to go all-in. His Heatwave is a great tool that can help you in any battle that you’re having. Is the enemy taking cover? Deal damage to them and make them come out by aiming it through the cover. Do you see the enemy coming, but they haven’t started shooting? Use Heatwave to mess with their visibility and gain the upper hand.
It’s a really versatile ability that you need to master as soon as possible to gain every duel you have, or at least to make enemies move away from their comfortable spots.
You might think that his Ultimate will take down enemies that stay in a specific zone, but I would say it’s not really for that. While it will probably deal damage to them (and every single hit counts), there aren’t many fire projectiles falling at the same time, and they are slow. What this ability is really useful for is raiding.
Once you are inside your enemy’s base, you activate Firestorm in a building that you want to help destroy, and your ability will start getting the job done. You can also use it as a decoy, making the rival team think that you will assault a point, but you’ll actually go to the other.
There’s not much to say about Firebomb. Use it everywhere that you see fit, but obviously, it’s way more effective inside of buildings — especially close to generators, since you’ll probably kill anyone trying to arm or defuse bombs.
