Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a serious game. It treats its premise with genuine care, refusing to delve into the easy melodrama of the base idea. Of course, it does still have humour on its side. Humanity will always find comedy in the tragic. And Verso’s Drafts are the epitome of that.
In the deepest, sickly sweet sections of the canvas, you will find a land made by Verso that is filled with Gestrals just having fun. Grueling, bizarre fun. Such as pixel-perfect diving board challenges. And to save you tearing your hair out doing it, we’re going to do our best to help you land in those rings like a champ.
How To Gain Access To The Diving Board
As you head south after entering Verso’s Drafts, you’ll come across a diving board stretched out from a rather sheer cliff, and a long line of Gestrals waiting for their turn on it. There’s just one issue – one little Gestral doesn’t want to play nice.
They claim it’s an act of revenge, with something of theirs stolen, and them deciding no to budge until it is returned to them. You might think this means you have to find it, but you can’t. Speak with the other Gestrals in line and you will come to a rather unorthodox conclusion – Gestral issues require Gestral solutions.
You literally just have to whack the little guy off the diving board. Just send him flying. Don’t worry, he’s fine. You can even talk to him in the water below and he’ll say getting punted like that was great fun. The other Gestrals will thank you, and the diving board is now free for your leaping pleasure. Though with the number of attempts this is going to take, it’s more displeasure.

How To Land In Each Of The Rings
After clearing out the obstacle on the diving board, you may notice three coloured rings in the water below. If you speak with the Gestral stood beside them, he will bemoan the fact that no one wishes or is able to land in his carefully placed ring. The game will then tell you rather explicitly that yes, landing in these rings from the diving board is a game.
Landing in two of the rings, the blue and yellow, is fairly simple. It’s when it comes to the red ring that you’ll want to curse this game for ever adding the ability to jump. You do get a reward for each ring at least, rather than having to get all three of them.
Blue Ring
The blue ring is the easiest to land in, being fairly close to the diving board and being very wide, giving you plenty of area to land in. It is slightly to the right of the diving board so you’ll need to jump off at angle to land in it.
It is close to the board itself though, so you won’t really even need a running start. You don’t hold momentum when running, but rather can reach the maximum distance with a jump the second you start sprinting. As such, it’s easier to just stand near the edge of the board, line yourself up with the ring, and then immediately jump after you start sprinting. There will be a splash of water if you’ve landed in the later correctly.
As a reward, you get a new hairstyle for Maelle.
Yellow Ring
The yellow ring is to the left of the diving board, and is a bit tighter to land in than the blue ring, though is still fairly generous in terms of where you can land.
Like the blue ring, you can easily line yourself up on the board here first, and then take a quick sprint and leap to reach the ring, watching for the splash of water. You will need to leap from further along the diving board to reach it, though still not quite the end of it.
As a reward, you get a Colour of Lumina.
Red Ring
The final ring we need to land in is the red ring, and this genuinely demands perfection. It really does not seem like you can be anything but exact with this one. It is very easy to almost get it, but landing on the red ring isn’t enough. You need to land directly in the centre to trigger that splash of water.
For us, we found it best to use Sciel for the red ring. Everyone can cover the same distance with a sprint jump, but Sciel’s animations make her the easiest to actually track where she is on the diving board, letting you be a bit more accurate with your leaps.
To reach the red ring, you have to jump at literally the very last moment. You should walk to the edge of the board before jumping off to get an idea of just how far you can reach before you fall off. You need to be pretty precise with your angle when jumping as well, so make a quick turn to the left just before you jump. And make sure you hold forward after the jump so you keep moving forward in the air.
When you do fall, there is a zip line right behind you at the bottom of th cliff that will bring you back up to the diving board.
It will take quite a few turns and a lot of minute adjustments to eventually get it since it demands pixel-perfect movements, but you can do it. We know you can. Your reward is a dashing new hairstyle for Monoco, the French Bob.
