Marathon is finally here, having Bungie flex its stunning art direction and visuals while expertly pairing it with some of the most tense and horrific encounters in the genre. And, as expected in an extraction shooter, obtaining rarer and more powerful loot is the name of the game, but you can only hold so much of it at a time. That is, at least, until you expand your Vault Size, allowing you to carry many more items than ever before.
However, it’s a bit easier said than done, as expanding your Vault Size to the max will require lots of Credit, XP, and resources, meaning you must grind if you want to hoard all your precious weapons, Cores, and Implants. Thankfully, the grind is well worth it, as you will quickly realize just how much your Vault can fill up after a few successful runs into the daunting world of Tau Ceti IV!
How To Expand Your Vault Size
As touched on above, expanding your Vault Size in Marathon will take lots of grinding, especially if you want to reach its max size and move on from the measly 160 slots you start with. However, to sweeten the pot a little bit, the very first Faction that becomes available to you, CyberAcme, will be how you acquire more space for your Vault, allowing you to target it from the jump. While the first few upgrades aren’t terribly demanding, it quickly requires more and more resources to upgrade it, as well as a pretty high Faction Reputation.
Marathon: Complete Guide To Factions
Want to know which faction to level first in Marathon? We’ve got you covered in this complete guide.
Not only will you need to reach a specific Faction Rank with CyberAcme before the upgrades become available, but you will also need the proper amount of Credits and other resources to unlock said upgrade, which is where things can get really grindy. But, fear not, we will give you the brief rundown of each Vault Size Upgrade, their unlock requirements, and the resources you will need to obtain them!
All Vault Size Upgrades

Unstable Diode is a common resource found in the Perimeter zone, particularly in the North and South Relay regions. For Unstable Gunmetal, it is frequently found in the Station region of the Perimeter zone, and also in the Maintenance region in the Dire Marsh zone. While these resources can be used to barter and obtain other items via the Armory, we recommend holding onto them to expand your Vault Size!
How To Level Up The CyAc Faction
While obtaining Credits, Unstable Diodes, and Unstable Gunmetal is just a matter of grinding out runs and trying to exfil with them in your inventory, you can directly focus on leveling the CyberAcme Faction on the side, allowing you to grind out the 28 Ranks needed to unlock all five Vault upgrades. First things first, we strongly recommend using CyAc Sponsored Kits when available, as successfully extracting with it equipped will offer lots of Reputation.
From there, you should focus on completing Faction Contracts for CyAc, as that will ultimately be the best method of accumulating lots of Reputation. And, for most Contracts, you only need to complete the needed objectives to be able to turn them in, meaning it doesn’t matter if your run is successful or not, so long as you finish all the steps for the Contract.
And, that’s about all you can do to boost your Reputation gains for a specific Faction in Marathon, so be prepared to carryout lots of Contracts for CyAc and attempt to finish many more runs with their Sponsored Kits. It will take lots of time and effort, but it’s more of a time sink than challenging. If you don’t mind playing solo, we recommend it for tackling Contracts, especially, as you can move at your own pace and tunnel in on your specific objectives!
While hardlining CyAc upgrades, we also encourage you to unlock and level up other Factions, as they will also offer potent upgrades that can help you complete more runs at a much more consistent rate, allowing you to circle back to the CyAc Faction to start racking up more and more Reputation. Don’t burn yourself out by repeating the same Contracts over and over again, and take a break every now and again to focus on a dedicated build for your preferred Runner Shell!
