In Where Winds Meet, you’ll end gathering a lot of items. Some of them are also quite important, even if at first glance it may not seem so. That piece of armour you’re wearing may well be an ancient artifact waiting to have its story told.
The thing with antiques is sometimes you don’t know the value of what you’ve stumbled upon. But of course, this is a free-to-play game, and nothing exists just to exist. Those antiques have another use, if you can figure it out.
What Are Antiques?
In the majority of the areas in the game, you can find Antiques, which are listed in the Journal for each area. While you unfortunately cannot check which Antiques came from which area in the Journal, you can at least quite easily find all your Antiques in the bag by filtering it to Traceable.
Antiques are typically just left lying around in an area. They could be a letter, a piece of armour, a fan, a handkerchief, or anything. When picked up, many of them will be equippable items too. However, not all Antiques actually register as Antiques when you pick them up. You have to discover their value before they are registered as such.
If you pick up an item and it gets a compendium entry or has quite an elaborate description, do make sure not to recycle them. That said, you can get them again at the Incense Burner if need be.
Where Winds Meet: Her Legacy Lost Chapter Quest Walkthrough
Here’s where to find every clue for the Her Legacy Lost Chapter quest in Where Winds Meet.
Where To Find Antiques
Antiques are found in most areas, though make sure to check out the Journal for each area to see if there are any Antiques remaining to be found. They’re unfortunately not marked on the map, so you’ll need to just pick up everything you come across.
Finding Antiques
Due to Antiques all having some history behind them, they’re typically not found completely devoid of context. As such, that means you’re more likely to find them in areas with something going on.
For example, you can find a Handkerchief in the Peace Bell Tower where a battle occurred between two people, or you can find the armour of Ye Wanshan in Bodhi Sea after beating him. There is context, which should help guide you towards them in any given area.
Where this gets a bit more complex is in when you find the item that will become an Antique, but it hasn’t been activated as one yet. You may already have it in your inventory, but it won’t be marked as found. Because of this, it’s best to try pursue Antiques as soon as you find an item you think might be one.
Activating Antiques
Activating Antiques is the real end goal when you acquire an item you believe to be an Antique. Many of these items will come with long descriptions that describe their history, and typically offer hints on how you can fully unlock its Traces of the Past.
For example, Ye Wanshan’s armour mentions the armour was to be entrusted to a monk. If you find this monk, you will unlock the Traces of the Past for this piece of armour, turning it into an Antique.
If you open up your bag and filter to just Traceable Antiques, then you will find every Antique you have that you can still find more information on. From here, you can click on them to bring up their respective pages and any clues you might have towards fully activating them and unlocking the remaining Traces of the Past.
Activating The Halo Peak Incense Burner
Initially, Antiques can seem like nothing more than just a fun way of detailing the history of the world, and until you reach Halo Peak, that’s true. It’s a fun system even at its base for encouraging you to explore the world, though there is more do here.
At Halo Peak, you will meet a man called Qingxuan who talks to you about Antiques, Traces of the Past, and Concealed Edges. Discovering the depth of these items’ history may allow you to unlock their latent power through Concealed Edges. That first, however, requires the use of Qinghe Memories.
Where To Get The Qinghe Memories Item
Qingxuan asks you to offer him up Karma in order to activate the Incense Burner, though what he is actually looking for is the Qinghe Memories item.
This item is a reward from reaching Qinghe Exploration level six. And to reach that level, you’ll need to explore a whole lot of the Qinghe region. You get exploration experience from just about everything you do, which goes hand-in-hand with trying to find Antiques and their Traces of the Past.
After getting the Qinghe Memories item, just give it to Qingxuan and he’ll give you access to the Incense Burner.
Getting Antique Clues
The Incense Burner at Halo Peak is an invaluable tool. Completely for free, and for every Antique that exists in Qinghe, it will offer you up clues that will tell you approximately where to find them and what the Antique is.
The Incense Burner can also give you back any Antiques you’ve recycled for a small fee
.
For example, one clue tells you about the Tang Palace Hairpin and that it can be found at a lone grave in the deepest section of the Gleaming Abyss. This won’t tell you how to get the Traces of the Past, but will will at least let you know what the Antique is, and make it easier to track which ones you’ve already obtained.
How To Get Concealed Edge
The ultimate end to all of this Antique collecting and uncovering their Traces of the Past is to gain some Concealed Edges. While the game makes it seem as though any and every Antique can be turned into an accessory, it is in fact only select weapons.
At the moment at least, it appears only Swords and Spears can be turned into accessories, and even then the selection of those that can be turned into accessories is very small.
Qingxuan also doesn’t make it very clear how you actually unlocked Concealed Edge, though looking at the Incense Burner on the world map offers a bit more insight. Upon finding all of the Antiques in a whole region, you will get a Concealed Edge.
And this isn’t for any single area, like the General’s Shrine, but all of the smaller areas within a larger one. For Qinghe, these areas are the Verdant Wilds, Moonveil Mountain, and Sundara Land. After finding all of the Antiques in any of those regions, return to Qingxuan and he’ll give you a Concealed Edge for each region fully completed.
Once you’ve gotten a Concealed Edge, just interact with it in the menu and it will highlight every weapon you own that it can be used on and this will then permanently turn it into an accessory.
